It's easier to push your toe down leaned over without upsetting your posture than pulling your toe up

I would say it is to do with ground clearance, being limited for getting foot under the shift lever whilst leant over.

Considering I have scraped a boot in a turn while my foot was under gear shift I have to agree. I also think it had to do with it being much easier to tap down when you may be concentrating on a bunch of other things.

Just my 2 cents.

+1 happened to me at brands, halfway round the turn and needed to tip in more but couldnt because foot was trapped, ended up going off, fortunately kept it upright though Never happened since, make sure i'm in the gear i need to exit.

The knee down position on left hand bends means its difficult to find the next gear up on exit, in the standard pattern.

Whereas, finding downshifts during braking is easier because you're not usually cranked over!

Just try to put your foot under the gear shift while at full lean.

Not a lot, there are a few turns at tracks
( long left hand sweepers, where you might want to shift and it will be easier ). That said there a few famous "standard shifter": Kevin Schwantz, Mat Mladin ...

I've always left my as a standard shift, race bikes included. I know you get use to it, but it was just screwing w/my head too much at the track, and that is the last place I needed to be thinking about anything else except the next turn or the next pass.

Plus my dirt bike would then start screwing w/me with its standard shift

That said, our track is primarily a right hand track so this really isn't an issue there.
