What's up all? Been lurking these boards for a couple of weeks now, gathering info on the S1000 platform. I don't have one (yet) but I've been looking to pull the trigger on one within the next month.
Currently ride a K6 GSX-R 1000, and a K7 750. Both great bikes, but I'm ready for something a bit more modern. The '17 GSX-R is looking damn promising, and for a great price too, but that bimmer just does something crazy to me. Every since this pic made it's way across my facebook feed I've been hooked:
I too have to fight that Suzuki urge, but it's a little easier since I have owned two S1000's. You won't go wrong getting this bike, and you'll love every second. Plus.... I like a 3 year warranty as opposed to 1, and 8 years of R&D as opposed to roughly 2-3 .
Maybe in 2 or 3 years the GSXR will be king again (unless BMW changes the game for the second time), but until that point I'm sticking with this beast.
Appreciate the welcome! Not sure on what happened with the pics. Probably something with the site I hosted them from.
Fountain! About an hr and 15 South of Denver.
A warranty sounds promising as well, something I'm looking forward to going with a newer bike. I'll have to look into some options with that seeing as how I wasn't looking to go the brand new route.
And yes, that new GSXR looks nutty. Just saw one of them crack 199 horses on a dyno. Putting up some quick laps too!
See, this is what I'm ultimately trying to avoid. Was going to go the upgrade route over the winter but just to play catch up in terms of power I'd be into that motor $8k at least. Not including labor. From what I've been seeing it seems only thing I gotta do to the RR is a flash, and slip on. IF THAT.
Took a 2016 for a quick rip Friday. Bike feels so light compared to my K6. I didn't get to push it like I really wanted (dealer located in the busiest part of town), but it rode great. My schedule will be a lot cleaner in the coming weeks, I'll find the time to go in early before traffic gets too crazy.
I have trouble leaving anything stock, but I can tell you that I came from a turbo-charged 230rwhp GSXR1000, to then a 180rwhp GSXR1140 superbike, to a 180rwhp BMW s1000rr. The BMW's geometry, handling and everything is so much more refined. The GSXR felt like an old Camaro; rumbly, rough, unrefined, requiring muscle and concentration to get the bike to do what I wanted.
The BMW is smooth like a Yamaha, with more usable power and RPM than the GSXR offered. The brakes were far superior than what I was used to, the traction control works, the quick shifter is fun. Now, I haven't ridden the new GSXR, but I can't help but think that even if I bought a new one I would still be taking 5 steps backward. Sure, if I bought a new one then modified it heavily, then it would probably be wicked, and I would be poor. For now, the BMW is more capable than I am, on the street or on the track.
Reassuring to hear this from someone with some Suzuki experience. I must admit, even with me pushing damn near 270lbs, my K6 pulls like a freight train. I think I'm going to miss the raw mid-range on the liter bike. But I can agree on the bike feeling rough and unrefined at times. You have photos of your old bikes?? Would love to take a peek at them.
That 2016 is a good deal, especially if he comes down just a bit more. He also doesn't mention that he has the forged wheels on there, so even better .

Whats up man... Fellow Colorado resident here. I'm on a 2013 S1krr. 50% canyons/ 50% Track. Let me know When you pick up a BMW.
Bike will be sporting a new color scheme soon.
I was just telling Cycle_Monkey about Bishops Castle and Deckers a few weeks ago. Some in Colorado have never heard of Bishops and it saddens me lol. That's definitely top 3 here in the state.
Yeah Bishops runs are the shiznit haha. Coming back down through the back of Canyon city is always a blast too. We're doing a canyon run this Saturday (weather permitting), you're welcome to join. Gonna go ride the route Friday and make sure it's clear. It'll be our 4th run this month..so far so good.
I'm in Denver. I don't usually get out that way to often, but I'm always down to ride when I can. Deckers is a great run. I work in Golden so I usually in the mountains whenever I can be.
Thanks, I'm not sure what I want to do yet. Right now its matte black. Thinking of a scheme that fits it, or I might just go matte & carbon.
Welcome. Gotta love deckers. Not too sure what bishops run is though...may have ridden it in the past. There's a nice ride as fast as you want to go group that meets up on Sunday mornings up by denver, you gotta swing by sometime if you get the chance. Maybe once the roads clear a bit more... Feel free to PM me for details on that group.
I'm familiar with Fountain, dated someone in that area not too long ago. If you really want a good deal I recommend trying BMW of Denver. Maybe at least get quotes with the Springs dealership as well - unless youre looking used only...
I might be doing a track day in Pueblo this weekend. If you haven't hit a track yet I've heard wonderful things of pueblo motorsports track, and HPR I have personal experience with as another great track. Good way to really test these bikes out. But its not for everyone. Colorado has such great mountain rides where its reasonable to push it at times that I see why some people prefer mountains only (Cyclemonkey).

Clean bike, man. Are you track only or do you ride street as well?
I love my 7 fiddy, been fightin the good fight with deciding which bike I wanted to sale. Ended up listing my liter bike instead. I think I'll be better off getting my track experience up on that as opposed to the S1KRR.
Knowing me, I'll probably end up taking the RR to the track anyways.
I may have found the one. 2013 RR, Motorrad Colors, fully loaded with every option. 7800 miles. Seller is asking 11.7 OBO. Hopefully will get to check it out today after class.
Is the RR the one with the Austin Racing exhaust off of Woodmen and Powers? I thought about that one for a while, and it looks pretty clean. If you can't make it, I can go check it out for you :grin2::grin2::grin2:
