I'm currently in the process of buying an S1000RR from hourglass cycles in Buford Ga and taking delivery on Wednesday!! I currently ride a 2014 Yamaha FZ09, and I've been riding for around 7 years now. The S1KRR is going to be my first serious sport bike and I couldn't be more excited. I was about to pull the trigger on a 16 zx10r but they wouldn't let me test ride it, so I decided I needed to do a little more research on it. During that time I thought about the BMW and found I could buy one for the same price as the zx10!! It was a no brainer, I went up to hourglass and I was test riding one within 15 minutes. That obviously made up my mind about the bike I wanted to purchase and here I am!
My biggest question for you all would be, Is the DDC electronic suspension as amazing as they're saying it is? Its hard to tell because the S1K is such a massive upgrade from an FZ09, i'm sure anything I sit on is going to feel incredible in comparison.
Im in your area too, and I have DDC. It is great for our ever changing road conditions here in Georgia. Im so happy I went for DDC instead of traditional suspension, but I decided against Forged wheels after seeing so many of them bent and flaking.
I too bought my S1000RR from Hourglass
Jon Davis was my salesman, he's the man.
Congrats! I recently traded my 2013 for a new 2015 a month or so ago. The folks at Hour Glass are great to deal with. You are going to love this machine. I really liked my 2013, but the 2015 is better in every regard. Mine doesn't have DDC, but it rails in the turns. I'm not sure how much better the DDC is. I'm all the way over on the tire with 54 degree lean angles on the local roads (Blood Mountain, 180, etc...). Fantastic machine. Can't wait to hear your impressions after you've had some seat time. You'll want to get the first 600 miles knocked out pretty quick so you can get the restrictions removed, but be forewarned these things are like turning a caged animal loose over 10,000RPMs.
Warned? You mean be foreexcited! The FZ09 is a monster and I thought it was fast, but good god this S1k is insane. Never felt anything like it. So smooth!!
I recommend getting DDC and forgies otherwise you will always be thinking in the back of your head what you could have had. It's really nice to be able to soften it up for bumpy roads when needed. My biggest complaint about my bike is slow turn in, I didn't get forged wheels and that would have helped a bunch.
Congrats on the new bike. As @sro mentioned, I am about 10 minutes from Hourglass Cycles. Seem like good folks down there. If you ever need any help feel free to let me know.
Sorry I'm late to the party here. Just noticed the mention while checking private messages.
Lots of Atlanta people here!
Not sure if there's an interest but..... Nate Kern the BMW test rider and RR Ambasador runs trackdays at Atlanta Motorsports Park. We usually ride at AMP one Monday a month. It would be awesome to have more RR's there other than mine and Nate's. Even if you don't want to ride come up and visit! Just a short chat with Nate and you will learn an amazing amount of stuff about your bike.
Our next one is this Monday! Some photos of what you guys are missing out on!
What's the fee for a track day on Monday? What time do I need to be there for bike and equipment check? Is it just BMWs or can other bikes bless the track as well? I have a few buddies that would love a quick track day without the drive to Little Tally, Barber, Roebling or Jennings.
I picked up the bike with the forged. Guess i will make a better effort to dodge the potholes everywhere here in Atlanta. Wouldn't they be covered under warranty?
Unless you got the Zurich wheel and tire warranty I would guess they are not covered. Warranty doesn't generally cover use damage unless you get one that specifically states it covers damage not related to manufacture defects.
On the wheels. I have a set of the standard wheels a set of HP forged wheels and a set of BST carbon wheels. While I don't do mega mileage the only wheel problem I ever had was hitting a paving stone on i75. It was on the standard set of wheels and the bike left the pavement. I only had a very slight balance issue with the front wheel. It looked like this on my datalogger. Purple is DTC and the Cyan is the slip rate.
I have ridden with both the forged wheels and the carbon wheels on the street and never have had a problem with damage due to potholes. A bike with the forged wheels is a massive improvement over the standard wheels. Lower unsprung weight makes the bike turn in easier and you get better acceleration and braking. To me at least they are worth every penny.
Congrats! Leaving the office ina n hour to go pick up my 15rr!
