Yeah, I kind of had a similar issue on my former Daytona 675 where it spun a rod bearing due to low oil while I was at the track, flogging the daylights out of it. Low oil was due to incorrect dipstick (not me!) reading and Triumph's incorrect recommended amount of oil to fill at changing (Triumph sent out service bulletins to address both issues). Before taking the bike to the dealer, I put it back to 100% stock form and even took some used oil I still had and topped off bike to make sure it was full. I was hoping to get a brand new engine, but instead, I got a 100% rebuilt engine done by the dealer, all 100% covered by warrantee. Lets just say that I tend to check oil levels at least twice during a trackday and at least daily for street riding.
