New member of the forum - Seriously considering
Hello folks.
I've been riding sport bikes for approx 20 years starting in Paris France. I've been living in the Freezer of the Good Old (everything is relative, right?) United States: Minnesota for the last 15 years.
I am seriously considering purchasing this bike and will be doing research and asking y'all questions, if you don't mind.
I currently ride a Suzuki TL1000R with 93K miles on the chassis. My previous bike, Suzuki RF900, was retired at 114K miles (still in the shed).
I you can see, I'm notorious for picking Suzuki because they are the least maintenance free, easiest to work with. Parts are interchangeable, etc...
I do work on bikes on the side and have seen from Harley's to Race Bike, passing through scooters such as the good ol' Honda Spree.
I hope to find the same manufacturer deal ($15k MSRP brand new) this winter.
That said, I'm hopping onto the main forum to ask questions.

Welcome!
Try doing some searches for your questions. Chances are they may have been asked before but that doesn't necessarily mean it will come up in a search. So if you don't find any answers, post up Qs.

Viper,
Thanks! I was starting to think I wasn't welcome. LOL! I've been doing lots of searching and reading so far and went to the local stealship to check out what they had left: 2 of them: a yellow one and the white one, both ABS/DCT and their MSRP is 16300+tax+lic. I've also asked them to price out normal wear/tear items such as pads, rotors, oil filters to compare its maintenance life. The guy did say that the 600mile check-up was required and needed to be done at the dealership to de-restrict the bike???
I've also checked out the 2Bro's site...
The research continues (and will be for a while). Very interesting read so far though!
Thanks for a great forum though!

16,3 is par for the course. I'm in mass and my msrp was 16,345. I didn't pay that, but that WAS what they wanted lol.
As far as the first service goes, yeah, that's a must. BMW puts a limiter on the bike (9K rev/120mph) so idiots don't purchase the bike and blow the engine. After that, it's pretty much up to you. You can grab the GS911 and reset all your codes and do your own maintenance.
Use the search on the site to answer some of your questions but between you and me (and 90% of the ppl on here), the search function is hit or miss at best.

It may seem odd to you, but some members here resent the name "stealership" either because they work there or because they have a good relationship with their local dealer. I fall into the second category, and unless you have personal experience to back up the name, I'd give the dealer the benefit of the doubt. It would be bad news if he knew you from the forum as you went in to negotiate a bike purchase........
Have to agree with you on Suzuki, although my Blackbird gave me many trouble free miles. You'll discover that there is less of an aftermarket variety for BMW, BUT the manufacturers are really committed to their products, so the support is there.
And yes, $15K is possible, just might be a bit early. Check Max BMW.

I've worked as a salesman at a local dealership for a while and have seen their process first hand. That's where my personal experience comes in. I won't go into details as I'm not here to rant. I'm glad to hear there are happy customers. for what it's worth I've never had issues with this local BMW Motorrad dealer Leo's South. I bought my 1st USA owned bike from them and was treated extremely well (if I remember well). And whether the see my posts or not, is completely irrelevant on the "negotiations" :lol.

I've been looking around on what's available for aftermarket parts and how much OEM parts cost. You're right. But it looks like there is enough to customize the bike and make simple mods. I'm liking this.
I won't be picking it up any time soon. I know the best time to pick it up is right before the next year's models come out, in the dead of winter.

No, I haven't. But I'm pretty sure it's much better than what I have. LOL! I currently have a fat Suzuki TL1000R that take skills to flip around. The ergo on the S1kRR is good and comfy. I know I'll miss the comfy Suzuki seat though. But that's minor detail.
