Default Hello Guys and Girls -- Newbie!

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the market to buy a bike. I just sold my 2007 MV Agusta F4 and loved the bike. Prior to that I owned a ZX10 and CBR600. I really have only been riding since I was 40, now 47, and am not dragging my knees across anything but a baseball field. I like riding and only really go super fast when it is in a straight line. Anyone see any reason why I would not like this bike? I am in great shape, throw 9 inning games for my over 18 team and hit .400 every year, never hurt anything and can throw back to back days of 9 innings with no arm sorness. I'm love to ride I'm just not crazy on the bike. This one looks fun. What do you think?

You will love the S1R but the first 600 miles sucks do to the rev limit and breakin period.

Cool -- it looks like a lot of fun and I love the abs and different modes. Do you normally ride in rain or sport. There must be a big difference.

I use my bike as a daily commuter, to work then to school then home. So alot of riding. The difference in Rain mode, the most controlled, and Slick mode, the least controlled, seems like the difference in a pedal bike and bullet train.

As for difference in modes, if I could give each mode a score out of 10 for power it would go like

Rain 1
Sport 3
Race 7
Slick 10
I feel the biggest jump in power is from sport to race.

I usually leave it in sport or race, as slick mode on the street is a little unnecessary and I only used rain on the 600 break in, just to be sure I didn't go to hard on it, and when it rains.

This is definitely a good enough bike for an all around ride (street or track). The difference between the modes is most noticeable from rain to sport. Rain mode cuts the horsepower to 150. The scary thing about this bike is when you are in rain mode, 150hp seems like ur dragging an anchor behind you. A lot of the bikes out there are topped with 150hp. Once you start using sport, race and slick, the only differences are in the traction control and ABS interference. I say I can notice a difference in the throttle response between race and sport but that's just me. I ride sport in the city/traffic and race on the highway. I have the slick plug installed but have only used that map once.

The one major factor if you needed one to get this bike, is the confidence you get riding it. Take this with a grain of salt, but it's hard to put this bike down. The traction control is AMAZING and the ABS is a definite notice when you need it.

Go get the bike. I promise you will love it.

This is good info from everyone, thanks. I loved my MV Agusta. The looks were incredible and the performance is awesome but it isn't a bike I feel you could ride much. The features on the S1R are far and away more advanced. I am more likely to ride this bike more just be cause of the modes and abs. I'm excited.

Nice forum too.

The S1 is a great bike. Go down to the BMW dealer and see if they have a demo bike you can ride and you can decide for yourself if you'll like it. The answers you'll get here (mine included) will certainly be (on average) biased to say the least since this is an S1 forum. But none the less, there is a lot of great information to be found on the site.

Welcome aboard and keep us posted.

And post up a picture of the MV!!
