Default New to S1000RR, veteran on BMW

Hi all.

I've been lurking around here since I started considering the S1000RR a few weeks ago. Thought it about time I said Hi.

I've been riding beemers for my entire legal driving life. Started out with a 1983 R65 blue. Rode along with my dad to several rallies etc. In fact I was awarded the youngest BMW rider at the Wisconsin Dells rally in 1988.

Most recently, I had a 1999 R1100s. Unfortunately, it met it's demise (and mine) at the rear end of a car that pulled in front of me and braked. I swerved, but not in time as my left engine head caught the right tip of her bumper and sent me flying. I had it for 10 years and I loved that bike.

Crash was low speed. only about 30mph. I was wearing my gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, boots) Only got a big bruise on my left shin, thighs etc.

So after roughly a month of recovery, I found a 2010 acid green S1kRR locally and grabbed it up. So it's obvious that I really like this machine. I'm learning a great deal more about it here and I thank you all for that.

Its quite a change. The thing I noticed the most is how much this machine runs at higher RPMs than my old 1100s. But after having it just under a week now and putting a few hundred miles on it. I'm used to it.

So, thanks to all again.

Welcome to the forum. My last bike was a 2004 R1100S that I owned for five years and 18K miles.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing some of your experience. The evolution of BMW's to bring us to the S1000rr is amazing. Along the way, had a '99 R1100 S which was a sweet bike for it's day. Enjoy & stay in touch with the Forum.
