Default New here in RAF Lakenheath

Hey guys, the name is DJ. I am over here at RAF Lakenheath for 2 years for the AF. Planning on putting my order in for a thunder gray 2011 with DTC and ABS. Don't feel like waiting for 2012 and since all it is is a facelift I don't mind getting the bike now. Can't wait to start riding again since it has been roughly a year since I've been on a bike. Should be great. If you are in England give me a shout out.

Welcome. I'm at RAF Lakenheath also, currently in Kosovo now but will be back mid October.

Where are you ordering your bike from? I bought mine in Heidelberg and rode it back to England. US spec bike of course .

I'm getting mine shipped here to mildenhall when i go ahead and get it ordered. And we will definitely have to get together when you get back and ride. Heard there are a lot of riding groups around here.

Did you order yours through the BMW dealership at Mildenhall? What are they charging you for shipping it?

They wanted close to $900 for shipping when I was getting my bike.

They are charging 650 for the shipping. Wish I could just go to germany to go get it but I don't have a passport yet. And I may not get the bike until last year because my credit sucks right now and some of the loan terms are outrageous. So I may save up a bit more and wait till next riding season even though I want it now.

looks like it's a little cheaper.

I would just wait until next year. The riding season is almost over for us. Get your passport and fly down to Germany next year and ride it back. Ryan air tickets are cheap. Break in will be done by the time you get back to England.

lol that is true but at the same time I wouldn't know how to get from germany back to the UK. Plus if i get it here they will get the plates and road tax squared away. But I may wait until next season. It depends on how these loan terms go. I don't have great credit since I just started building it so I may have to wait unfortunately.

Hell, I didn't know where I was going when I picked up my bike. Luckily I had my Garmin Zumo to lead me home. I hard wired it at the dealer when I went to pick up my bike. The dealer picked me up at the airport and drove me around to register the bike. I got shipping plates for it at Heidelberg which are good for three months. I spent the night at Patrick Henry Village in billeting and took off in the morning. The total mileage of the trip was 565 miles. I took the Euro tunnel home which is only a 30 minute ride to get back into England.

If you do decide to make the trip down let me know and I can give you more information.

Pass and registration is going to do this for you anyways. They did for me when I registered it. Just had to get a plate made when the official paper work came in.
