Hi everyone,
Been surfing around the site now for a month or so and finally decided to join.
I have been riding since I was 18 and I am now 31. Unfortunately I haven't had a bike for the last 3 years now. I am currently working at saving up a nice down payment and plan on buying a bike late winter, early spring.
I love the look of the s1000rr and the thought of it making 190hp gives me chills. Awsome bike! I do have a few concerns though. After much reading here I see lots of problems people are having and this worries me. This is a very big purchase for me and I would be very upset to have a 17k problem bike.

-the bike just shuts off while ridding for no reason
-transmission grinds out during gear changes or pops out of gear
- really low hp numbers at the dyno (still stock)

^ these are my biggest worries and things that a warranty can't fix.
How common are these problems? I guess I need some reassurance that this is rare, or is rider error.

Some of my previous toys
1990 Kawasaki ex 500 (first bike. Thought it was the fastest thing ever lol)
2000 yamaha yzf-r1 (very sexy bike. Loved the raw power)
2005 Honda crf 450 (first dirt bike. I'm to old for that crap lol. Fun and powerful bike though)
2005 Honda cbr 1000rr (high quality, great handling, but very disappointed with the smooth power delivery. It just didn't feel fast. Traded it in just 3 months later for the Suzuki )
2005 Suzuki gsxr-1000 (looks didn't do it for me, fit and finish sucked, but holy **** was it fast! Very powerful, loved the way it delivered the power) this was my favorite bike just because of how it performed

I am a street rider that loves straight line speed. I also do the occasional "fun night" at the drag strip.

Well I hope someone can give me some posative feedback on there bike and maybe even give me a comparison to my Suzuki.

-Bray

Bray, first off - welcome aboard.

No brand is without its issues. As you have read, the BMW is no different and has various issues along the way, nothing so far that has required a recall. That said, probably the best thing you can do is read read read... then conclude your own opinion. I would also point out that the internet is going to be filled with many more bad things getting pointed out on anything (bikes, cars, trucks, etc.). People usually don't make a daily or weekly post about "My bike ran today w/out problems" or "One month in and not an issue had". You get my point... just keep that in mind. The good thing about folks posting the bad things that have happened is that it gives the rest of us a heads up in case we start experiencing something on that order. There are WAY more folks on S1000RR's that have had no problems than the ones that have had problems.

Good luck on your search for information, there's a lot here. And good luck w/your search for your next bike - always fun shopping!

Again, welcome aboard.

take a look at the start date of most of those threads...i would say a good 80% are from early to mid 2010...the 2011 model has come with a lot of improvements and manufacturing reliability. As 1000RR said its not typical for people to post threads saying "rode to work and back no problems!"

Good Luck and Welcome!
