Default Just thought I would say hi from Colorado

I wanted to say hello sence I have been reading many threads on your forum. I am a fellow rider but from another brand of motorcycle. I know, I know but it's a Harley Davidson and a touring model no less.
I am thinking about getting a sport bike and do not know if I will like the comfort available form the BMW or not. I have wanted a sport bike for a long time but have not pulled the trigger on one, the wifey says I do not belong on one.
I have been looking at other brands not saying they are better and stumbled on some right ups from other groups about how good the BMW is. So here I am

I guess the question is after you have gotten used to riding a sport bike what are your average types of rides, are most in the 2 hour range or are they longer? Are they good for just cruising as well when you feel like it?
I ask because I like going on longer rides like the 400 mile range but my bike has no power so i am willing to sacrifice going to the 140 range I think. My wife would probably like it better if I was not gone long as well.
She thought she would ride with me but after 2 rides she said it is not for her so not to worried about a passenger.
Sorry for the long story but just wanted to give you some idea of what I am contemplating at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Folks on the forum use their bike in all variations from a daily commuter to touring w/big packs and stuff on their bikes. My street bike is for weekend/recreational use. Usually me and one or two other guys get together every now and then and try and do an afternoon ride. We'll usually plan something in the 200-ish range. Usually take us 3-6 hours w/stops, lunch, etc. Once a summer we try and do a 3 day ride up through Colorado. A month and a half back we did about 850 up through there over a 2.5 day period.

The S1 is going to be nothing like your cruiser in terms of comfort. Totally different ergonomics. If you have both bikes you'd have a good taste of both worlds. My wife says the same thing about me and Harley's... just doesn't work on me

Go to the BMW dealer and see if you can take one for a spin. But try and see if you can take it out for at least 1/2hr to 45 minutes.... maybe an hour if possible. Then you'll see how your wrists, arms and back deal with it.

Welcome aboard btw!

Thanks alot for the great reply. I should do that, we have a dealer about 25 miles away or so and did not realy think about trying one out for a bit. Did not know they would, have always wanted a sport bike.
I would love to have both but my funds are not going to allow that while living comfortable.
I was not sure about what type of response I would get back, if I would be burned or just rude comments about having no business getting this as a first sport bike.
Thanks alot

BMW will let you test ride one, you might call ahead and just see if there is a better time than others. As far as the forum goes, you may get some mixed responses, but the folks on the forum are a great bunch - a lot of great input usually and we try and keep the BS responses to a minimum.

Good luck!

So I have looked at the bike and they do have a demo that they will let me take for a spin. The only prpoblem is that they are $16750. and do not want to come down at all on the price. I was all excitted because they listed one online starting at the top of the 14 range.
My hope was to trade across and not add to my debt or have to go out of pocket. I have been working oon getting rid of my debt so I do not want to go out of pocket or finance.
If it were my choice only I would do it but I have to talk to the boss, so I may be out and have to get something a little cheaper
I do not know what else I would get, there are so many other bikes out there that are good at many things but not as well rounded like the BMW

Not sure what to do now. I was thinking also the R10 but keep readingthe low and mid range are lacking, not just in this forum. Or would gearing take care of that?

Yeah, $14K-ish is starting price w/out any of the goodies (no ABS, no DTC, no Quickshifter). If you're wanting to stay in that $14 range fully loaded, you're probably gonna need to look at used ones and try and sell your current bike on your own.

Welcome to the forum mate. Would really recommend looking at taking the SKRR for a decnt test ride. Two completely different machines. You'll soon found out if you like it or not and its relatively comfortable - wrists and back. You may ignore these pains due to the fun you'll have on one

I am sure you are right about liking it I am just trying to avoid any money out of pocket, I know it sounds petty because I would only need about 2K. Which is not much but I have been working hard on getting rid of dept adn this would go against what I have been working hard to do.

Not to mention the insurance company laughed almost before the quote. It would go up $1600 a year on top of what I pay now.

As much as I hate to say it but I think I am out on the bike.

I do have an e-mail ready to ge sending pictures of my bike as one last shot at it but I am sure the salesman will not budge. He told me already he will not

Thanks guys and happy riding
