Default New to Augusta, GA

Hey All,

New to Augusta, new to s1000rr, new to bikes. So far, so good. Been riding since May11, rode friends 08' zx10r (lots of mods) before getting s1000 so was familiar with the power, but all I have to say is. . . higher RPM's is where it's at for this bike, it's like it becomes a different bike. Working on chicken strips. Some riding courses coming up that I think I'm gonna do in SC. Mods and tweaks so far:

1. Moto-D racing phone mount - brake line? gets in way at bottom of triple clamp, had to go to home depot to make do, works well now
2. Bike Monkey Smoked Integrated Tail light - Directions that it comes with it, not so great. I felt like the guy from Abyss cutting wires on that bomb. Works great though, I'll probably post a more descriptive 'how to'
3. Set suspension myself, did a lot of reading, and went for it. It's actually pretty ez, but I think the BMW springs are pretty stout, I have my preload almost topped out. Bike feels real good though, damping right now at mostly 3's. Using as street bike, nothing crazy (yet....).
4. Did exhaust valve flapper adjustment to keep open at low RPMs, thanks to S1000rr for great write up, sounds better (hard to tell though when I video'd it on iphone)

Things to come:

1. HP race cover kit on way in mail, getting painted to match black finish (shine black), getting BMW logo to go in center of undertail cover (saw it in a pic on someone's bike, looked awesome)
2. Sliders, Spools, Bar end mirrors
3. Exhaust (AR22 incolnel GP3 w/ bellypan when available)
4. Possible LSL handlebar risers, haven't decided
5. Several other things I can't think of right now

Thanks to everybody on this forum for the great info, I've learned a lot.

Congrats on the purchase!

The track is your friend... the sooner you get there, the better (safer) you'll be on the street. I wish I would have listened to the advice given to me (sooner) and got to the track sooner than I did - took a major 'get-off' to get me there. In a couple days at the track, you'll likely learn more than having 10yrs on the street.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, will do. I know of some track days in Savannah and once I get more settled here I think I'm gonna get to it. I've heard that's where you really learn the limits of lean angles, etc w/o having to worry that you're going to slip out from an unseen roof shingle, oil spot, etc. Will probably do a sportbike course as well in SC (military offered). In the meantime, riding safe, not pushing too hard. For me, it's enough to know I have the something faster than anything out there, I don't have to prove it. Best advice I've heard so far: "The bike will always out-perform you" and "Ride like everyone wants to kill you." In other words, respect the bike, and drive defensively.
