Default Hello from Colorado USA

Greetings everyone. My name is Jason and I bought an 11 back in early July. Some quick info about myself; I've owned quite a few bikes, mostly sport bikes. Had an 04 R1 with NOS (got stolen), 08 GSXR1000, 05 R6, 05 KTM 525, 04 YZ250F, 10 M109R, 94 YZF750R...those bikes cover the highlights. I currently have an 11 KX450F dirt bike (love the new fuel injection on these bikes!). I was in the Marines for 5 years, I got out went to college and I'm now a drilling engineer for Schlumberger. As for my S1000RR, I broke my bike in, did the 600 mile service, and then started my transformation. Like most of you, I only did the typical mods, nothing crazy. Here is my bike in its current state:

I did manage to dyno my bike before doing a single thing to it. 166 hp SAE and 73 ft-lbs torque. At over 5000 ft elevation that's not too bad. Being stock, that is more power than any of my previous bikes, with mods. I do plan on getting a custom map made and I'll update my thread when that is complete.

So far I love my bike. Only problem I had was a faulty radiator cap from the factory. Instead of pressurizing the coolant system, it would simply overflow once the coolant temp reached boiling. A new cap fixed that issue and I've had no problems since. I like everything I've done to the bike except one, the Heli bars. They do increase the comfort of long distance riding, but they also make turning more difficult, especially at low speeds. It might just be me and getting used to them. I'll keep them on for a while longer and if I continue to dislike the way the bike turns, I'll put the stock clip-ons back on.

Any comments or suggestions feel free to post. Any other Colorado riders on the board hit me up. I don't have any riding buddies and usually ride alone. So if you're out there and plan on going riding, shoot me a PM.

Thanks, Jason.

Hey Gene, how's it going? No luck getting a replacement bike from the insurance company? Hopefully you get your hands on another bike...they are extremely addicting.

Thanks Triple. Something tells me mine is a reflection of yours, or very close to it? lol I look at my bike and can't tell it apart from some of the others I see on this forum. Very hard to make these bikes unique, but in a way, that is a good thing.

Update: I finally got the bike dyno-tuned.

I noticed around 11,700 rpms there was a flat spot, both on the stock plot and on the tuned. I asked the tech why it was there and he thinks it's due to some ignition retarding. I asked if it was only happening on my bike and he compared my graph to another customer's who had a full Akra installed (green plot), and as you can see, there is a flat spot on his as well. Too bad Dynojet doesn't have any plans on making the ignition module, cause there are gains to be had.

Here is a copy of my map if anyone wants it. My mods are full Yoshimura exhaust, BMC race filter, PAIR valve removal, removal of the entire emission's system.

Thanks Gene. I plan on doing a track day, but not sure when. I won't be taking it to the drag strip as I have no interest in that. There is a new track out here in Colorado, High Plains Raceway. I hear it's really awesome and I'll probably take it out there in a couple weeks.
