Default Current rides - and waitin' on a new S1

Hey all, good to be here. "Pretty bad to be here."

My glorious CBR 929RR, my Starfighter, served me faithfully for 40K+ mi and 10 years. Had a guy tap me from behind (he was checking his email or txtng, whatever) while at an intersection, and so now what do I do? Do I fix up the old? Do I get a temporary ride in between? Do I go all out BTTWall and ante up on the S1?? How about all three?!!!

The Starfighter won't be back in action for quite some time. So in the meantime, I got me the Stone. Ha! Yeah, the Stone because it's a stone different groove from what I been aboard for the last decade. Oh hell yeah. But you know, when you love MC's, you get into it a little bit of everything here and there. I'm no snob, never been.

But so then, gotta S1 on order, and I'm not sure what I'm gonna dub that thing. I think I truly have to ride it first, in order to justify a cool nickname. I'm thinking the Mothership. Or maybe just "Mother". Haaaaaa!!!! My friend Gus used to have a Kawi ZX900 or whatever it wuz back in the day, he called it "The Mother of All Motorcycles." The Mother. Ha! Funny.

No lie, a few years back I looked into an Ohlins upgrade for the Starfighter and no s__t they wanted like ten effin' grand for Ohlins all around!!!! Is that insane or what???? So I gotsta quit pretending and just get me this yellow and black beauty with all the what's what built on in, OEM'd w/luv from the Fadderland! YEAH BABY!!!

And you know, I don't think I'm gonna miss the old Starfighter, but if I do, who knows? Maybe ride the S1 for a year and then go back to the old...

BWAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Not effin' likely. But I do have an emotional attachment to that old bike.

So look, all you dudes and chicks out there, ride well and ride hard and be smart. Read Keith Code. Internalize it. Live it. Do track daze if you can. I'll tell you this much, you'll have a whole new appreciation for the big buoyz, the real kings of speed once you do. So much concentration and physcial stamina to keep your line lap after lap after lap.

So I ordered me up one-a dem S100RR's w/nuttin'. No DTC, no ABS, no quickie shifty. I just want the basics, I'm a purist. Well, I gotta get me the GP direction inversion kit. The Stone is a standard shift and this ol' buoy gets konfuzed at times, but I'm remembering. It's been forty thousand miles with the GP shift pattern. Gonna take a few weeks to re-acclimatize.

Which reminds me, don't get sucked into the Woodcraft, SATO (although the Sato rearsets are very beautiful) nonsense just to reverse the shift. BMW has got a little known High Perf catalogue out there, branded "HP Parts" and in there is a factory GP direction inversion kit that'll work with both your quickie shifty and the normal. You can find it on S1000RR.com (They also got a very mandatory Ah-CROP-o-vich full titanium upgrade listed as well. Wish I had the cash for that outta the crate.)

The clutch on the Starfighter gets used once at every red light. Other than that, the tranny is like a buttered bagelicious click-fest. I don't need the clutch on that Starfighter unless I'm coming down fast from triple digits. So hopefully the S1's tranz is just az kewl and yummy. So yeah, if you got all the bells and whistlies you maybe gonna get me off the line with your wheelie controls and quickie shifty, but man you also gotta let go the clutch people. Think of it as a pacifier. Once you learn to play w/the gas, there ain't no need for your clutch, or a quickie shiftily - you just click-click-click and away you fly.

Fly fly Starling, fly fly.

Nah, whatevva - I don't mean to crit. If you gotta go that fast, then I'm gettin' outta your way. With 189bhp, I think the standard set of controls will do me ever nicely. I gotta young redhead at home now and she needs me around, I can't be banking outta those corners with the throttle wide open relying on some brilliant algorithms to keep me from losing it. I need to respect this thing in my soul! ABS? Man, totally. A lot of riders I respect make a great case for it. But on a bike I just can't get used to the idea. I donna lotta stoppies on that 929, and my front nearly washed out a coupla times. Scary. But I like knowing after 10 yrs and forty thou, there's less gadgetry to give me problems. Let's hope I make it that long! Hey, I'll drink to that...

BWAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just looooooove that they made it lemony for 2011.

Interesting read and Welcome!!

I don't think you'll find the tranny to be much of A clickfest and the slipper clutch has a different feel upon engagement. But then again I haven't ridden an S1 without QS and you will have a warranty in case anything happens .

How bout "Starkiller" or "DeathStar"...I'm still working on a name too .

Have fun with your rides!
