New vs used all comes down to what you are looking for and what is available.

You can save a few bucks buying used, sometimes quite a few if there is one that has all of the add-ons you want. You should have a lot more options in CA than most of the rest of the country. The down-side of buying used is that you don't know how the previous owner treated/maintaind the bike. That could be an issue because your warranty will be shortened, or even be nonexistant if you get a 2010.

There are still some new 2012's out there (even here in OH where S1K's are in short supply) - that might be an option for you. The dealers need to clear them out of their inventory so you should be able to get a pretty good deal on one and still get the full 3 year warranty.

Hope that helps.
