Default another UK newbie!!

Hi all.

Recieved delivery of my brand new S1000rr a couple of days before xmas.
Spent months trying out every 1000cc sportsbike there is, as had had my zx10r for 4 years and needed to treat myself to something new (cos i'm worth it! )
my opinions (everyone has their own opinion, so please dont be offended!)

Fireblade = too easy, felt bland.
R1 = sounded great, felt big & heavy.
1198s = amazing bit of kit, was a missile, wheelied everywhere! but i go to Germany every year to the nurburgring and couldnt trust it to take me across Europe and back with Italian reliability.
GSXR1000 = didnt feel that quick, my old zx10 felt faster, looks were outdated.
ZX10 = didnt even ride it, bloody thing is far too ugly, from every angle. I'm a big kawasaki fan, i also have a zx7rr for trackdays, but this was never going to be an option for looks alone. Had a great argument with a kawasaki saleman after telling him i was about to buy a bmw, he was arrogant to start with, appeared out of nowhere, too much hair gel and loved himself etc. he was like "the zx10 is much faster, better looking etc etc" i got really defensive!! i replied that i respect that he works for kawasaki, but he's talking crap, the claimed bhp figures from kawasaki are way off, and every magazine thats dyno'd them prove that the bmw is on average 10bhp more powerful, bmw beats it on the road for its usability as the kwak is revvy as hell (why would i want a 1000cc sportsbike that i have to thrash? if that was my style i'd buy a 600)
but more importantly, that new zx10, in my opinion is not pretty, in fact its bloody ugly. The lines are'nt sharp, it has plastic everywhere that looks cheap and whoever designed that tail unit should be slapped in the face!
He didnt accept criticism of his showbike very well!

But winter kicked in before i could even ride the bmw, but at that point it didnt matter, it was always going to be s1, just wanted to ride other stuff first. My girlfriend pointed out that the only posters in my garage are of 2 race spec s1000's, so was i ever going to buy anything else?.......er...no!

I wasnt sure whether to hold out for the 2012 model so waited for the UK bike show in November to see it in the flesh, obviously with the improvements its a slightly better bike, but i prefer the look of the original bike, especially the motorsports colours and was able to get a good deal on one of the last ones in the country with all the dealers clearing stock for the 2012.

So here she is!!!

I had the dealer take out the wheels and i had them powdercoated white.
HP rearsets.
Adjustable black levers.
Renthal sprockets (1 tooth less front)
Evotec tail tidy
BMW alarm

I've ordered today from Tom @ Biohazard a full titanium Yoshimura system with Carbon end can.
I spend literally hours online looking at various systems and seem to come back to the yosh as it looks awesome, can isnt too big and love the bellypan extension it comes with, but have had to import from the USA as prices in UK are obscenely high.
Need to run it in and will then add the PC5.

Hope you like the pics, thanks for reading my little story and happy new year!!

still at the BMW dealer after wheels being refitted....

Congrats on the new bike! You did well, sounds like you put a lot of thought/effort into your decision and stuck with your guns and not "talked" into buying something you didn't want.

Looks good with the white wheels!

I'm glad you put the Kawi salesman in his place. I will never ever buy a bike from some gelled up haired nose/lip pierced kid that thinks the product he is selling is the best because he is going to make money from it. When I bought my S1 I thanked the dealership for not having the gelled up hair facial pierced silver tongue slaesman. They agreed with me and claimed they will not hire people like that. Very good experience buying my S1.

Hopefully you will get some good weather and can get out and ride that beast!

Good weather is like 3 months away!! (gonna be a long 3 months me thinks )

Have to admit the BMW salesman was a genuinely nice guy, i explained to him like all the others that i've been a salesman all my life, i'm now a regional sales director and run teams of salesman so i completely get that they have to make a couple of quid, but i dont want to be mugged and expect a good deal.
Some of them just took the piss and tried to rip me off, including my local bmw dealer, in the end i bought the bike 80 miles away as the bmw dealership were awesome, great deal, great service nice chap.

I cant buy something from someone i dont like!

Hi,

I'm well happy with the white wheels, looks amazing in the flesh.

Belly pan extension comes with the yoshimura system, search on this site or on google images you'll see what i mean.

There is a belly pan extension made by tecbike that covers the standard cat, again have a search on here or on google mate, think they are a dutch company, looks quite nice.
(after a million hours looking at every exhaust system possible for the BMW i've become a bit of an expert!! so any questions let me know!!)

Hope that helps....

Cheers

Wheels only cost £100 for the pair, perfect finish.
Its the hassle of tyres off, bearings out, discs off etc. Hence why i had bmw garage do it before it was delivered, i just collected the wheels and dropped them off.

Just want my new exhaust now!!!
