Default Oil Filter

So, i need a oil filter, but my OEM Dealer is over 2 hours away. I was thinking of picking up a K&N oil filter? Anyone dealt with those? Are they good quality?

I'm not a big fan of K&N products in general, but oil filters aren't rocket science, and most of the aftermarket brands work fine. A K&N is probably a Purolator, Wix, or Champion under the label.

But.... given that the S1000RR has had a few spectacular total engine failures, I'd feel a more comfortable from a warranty perspective having a BMW filter on there though.

More than a few of the BMW dealers online have a 3 pack filter/crush washer deal, shipping is pretty cheap too. Maybe try Max BMW? Like others, I would not use an aftermarket filter on anything that I cared about, unless the dealer endorsed its use in writing.

I've used K&N on my Honda CBR and they work great. Of course that's a track/race bike and I change the filter regularly. The 17mm pre-drilled nut makes it easy to torque and safety wire. You should be fine. I don't know about whether it can become a warranty issue so maybe do it this time and then as others have suggested, buy a set of two or three OEMs for next time.

K&N oil filters are very high quality and have a nut on the end of them for easy removal.

used k&n since first service, good filter...i don't like the high price though.i switched to the purolator pureone filters.very high quality.i haven't had any issues with either.the price on the pureones cost me $1.25 each after rebates.many other people are using these on their bikes with no known effects.
