Default Synthetics in low km bikes

Just returned from the dealer after the first break in service. I was surprised when they told me that they used synthetic oil for the change. Thought you needed to put on some mileage before switching. They told me that Ducatis and BMWs don't require to put on mileage first as they run the engines in the factory before delivery. I trust the service staff but have never heard this before. Agree or disagree.

I assumed the bike shipped from the factory with the recommended oil from the manual, which is a full synthetic.

Many high performance motors come with synthetic oil from the factory. The biggest concern would be putting a synthetic oil in an engine with high miles that was designed for and has been using conventional oil. You may see some oil burning issues in that case, but sythetic oil has a higher flash point than conventional, so it shouldn't be a big deal. When synthetic is recomended by the manufacturer, like with BMW, synthetic is used from the time the motor is new. Most synthetics aren't true synthetics anyway. Many of them are just highly refined conventional oils that behave like synthetics. Mobil 1 is an example, but Castrol Syntec was the first "synthetic" oil to use Class III conventional oils as a base.

Ooooops! Didn't realize the bike shipped with synthetic. Guess I'll have to crack the manual......I was too busy riding the thing.
