Thumbs down Dealer $ervice Interval$ and Co$t.

So I called my local dealer today to check and just see what the cost were to do the first service at 600 miles. Although I have already changed the oil once already I figured maybe I should take it in and have them take a look cause my bike at 500 miles is making a few noises, valves are a little bit noisy and the brakes squeak and grind, so I thought OK I should just have them go through it and this is what the dealer told me.

600 mile first service will cost $350 which consist of changing the oil and filter, checking the steering head torque, adjust the chain and check all the fluids... OUCH!! Shouldn't need an initial valve adjustment.

Next service 6000 miles... WTF??? Cost $300 and consist of changing the oil and filter, adjust the chain and check all the fluids and extra if it needs brakes.

3rd service 12,000 miles and $350 and consist of changing the oil and filter, changing the air filter, adjust the chain and check all the fluids

4th service is the biggie... $700 and consist of a valve adjustment, changing the oil and filter, checking the steering head torque, adjust the chain and check all the fluids.

So my final thought when I hung up the phone was first WTF is BMW thinking with the 6000 miles between the oil changes? I will continue like on my GSXR 1000 to change the oil myself at 100, 600, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000 and 10,000 miles and so on. Oil changes will cost me $70 max! You cant have to clean of oil can you? Nope!!! I do all the fluid checks and chain adjustments every 500 miles. I just don't understand the justification of spending $350 for them to do a visual inspection when you should know how to do that anyways before riding your bike. No brake fluid could kill you, no antifreeze or oil could seize the engine and kill you, to loos or to tight of a chain could kill you, bold tires or poor tire pressure can kill you!

That's just my 2 cents!

So, in summary, you don't follow the manufacturer's service recommendation for your GSX-R, and you're not going to do it for your S1000RR either.

What's your point?

I think the main point was more of a question! what the hell are they thinking in between the 600 miles to the 6000.......Theres alot of work to be maintained betweeen these miles but yet its not mentioned.

I change my oil in my FX45 every 3000 miles... what im trying to say is it dosent make since that we're driving our bikes at twice the revs and yet BMW thinks that 6000 mile betweens oil changes are ok?? My 2007 GSXR1000 had 22k miles on it and ran like it was brand new. When I did the 16k mile service the guy told me hes never seen a bikes valves so clean and not needing adjusting. I believe thats because of how often I changed the oil and the oil I used.

I guess all i was trying to say is that its seemed steep to just change the oil and look over the bike. I'm not sure what else needs to be done but I plan on keeping this bike a while and I wanna keep it in top condition!

Yes, they charge a lot for oil changes. I do my own.

Not sure on what basis you believe your GSX-R performance was due to oil changes - faith?

My 2006 ZX-14 had 26k miles on it and ran like it was brand new. When I did the 15K service the valves were exactly in the middle of OEM spec. I don't think it had a damn thing to do with how often I changed the oil or the oil I used.
