Default Resetting the Service Indicator?

I was reading through the manual, and it appears that a "Service" indicator will light up in the dash when the bike needs to be serviced. I couldn't find any info on how to reset it on your own. Anyone know?

In BMW cars, the service info is held in the key and the dealer resets that when service is done.

Might be the same on the bike?

A friend of mine had a Z3 and we were able to jumper a couple wires and do something w/the ignition in order to reset the service indicator. Hoping there is some magical key on/off routine that can do this.

I know there's a few of you that work for BMW out there - someone care to check w/their Service dept?

Z3 is ancient tech...

I think on new stuff the key gets its data from some short range RF transmitter in the car.

Z3 was started with a bone and twig!

As an aside, 1000RR, you are aware your signature suggests you got you bike in November?

yeah you can do that on my Z3, E36 but on the newer 330 E46 you can reset the service indicator with a combo of dash button pushes so dont rule it out

Hopefully there is something like that... I couldn't find anything in the book. Been read'n through it, setting the clock/time and the shift indicators and frequency of the light (and brightness too). Pretty cool stuff. With the strobe affect, it will certainly catch your attention

Im guessing you'll be able to buy a code reader / service reset in the not too distant future
