Default Part Number for the Steering Head Socket?

Does anyone have it?

I'm going to order one if I can find the number. My BMW dealer is trying to help, but their main parts manager is out for several days and it seems that no one knows how to convert the number [31 3 721] from the service manual to an orderable part number.

I have it, but I seem to recall they changed the part number. Problem is that it is at work, I can only check in 12 hours if that is ok?

The dealership said they would call back if they found the number ... that was yesterday.

So, yes that would work.

Thanks,

The old part # is 88313721. But as I thought, this is now changed to a more BMW like part # 8330 2152 902. And I did check, there is movement on the new part number. The reason I am giving you both part numbers is that there may be stock of the old part number and none of the new (same part different suppliers I think). So check on both numbers.

P.S. This castle socket is a real solid sturdy affair called a pin wrench by BMW. It sounds expensive (about $55 retail I calculated) until you have the thing in your hand! And I would be very surprised if you cannot source a generic alternative in the States/UK at a much cheaper price. I hope you get it sorted.

Thanks Nigel. I just ordered the part using the new number, it will be here in 5 days at a cost of $48 + tax.

I ordered from:

Chicago BMW 6820 N. Western Ave. Chicago Il. 60645 1-800-262-9150 Chicago's Only Factory Authorized BMW Motorcycle Dealer

1 x 83302152902 (83302152902) = $47.87
------------------------------------------------------
Sub-Total: $47.87
Standard Shipping (UPS or DHL Ground *NOTE* Oversize Packages & Multiple Box Shipments Will Be Charged An Extra 5 - 10 dollars.): $9.00
Total: $56.87

Worth the $9 not to have to drive down towards the city.......plus, no tax....yet.......

Ooops! I missed this post ... I ordered it from BMW Louisville. I talked with the parts manager a couple days after I ordered it, (last Friday?), and he told me there were only 4 left in the system (USA).
