Default Any way to know which oil?

Purchased my S1K used. The dealer did the 1,000 K break-in oil change. Any way to know what oil was used without asking? E.g synthetic vs otherwise...

Not by you or I... unless it's greenish colored (Motul Racing Synthetic)...

Check your dealer invoice. It should list the oil used, in the very least the weight. Mine noted the weight and not the brand. I called the dealership and asked them directly. Turned out that they used 10W50 BMW brand oil.

You paid for a service and should have easy access to whatever information you require.

Most BMW dealers use the BMW synthetic 5w-40 oil. I'd call and ask if it is not on your work order.

My dealer uses Motul full synthetic. AKA - green stuff, as mentioned by 1000RR.

That stuff is pretty cool looking, almost looks like the color of antifreeze. Freaked me out the first time I used it. I'm running it in my race bikes... haven't put it in the S1 only because I wasn't sure how it was viewed by BMW as it relates to warranty... and the last thing I needed was for something internally to go boom on the motor and blame cast on the green stuff. Personally I think it is superior oil and would run it in both bikes... but for the S1 I guess I'll just wait till after my warranty is up

I know what you mean, when I drained my oil to put the exhaust on (long story) I was like WTF.

It's funny how the dealer uses oil that is technically not recommended by BMW. They use it and charge $20/liter I use it and pay $12.50/liter.
