Default small rattle turned into big rattle...

so my bike had the small rattle coming from the exhaust butterfly, so i sent it into bmw to get checked out.

They came back to me and said the exhaust butterfly rattle is not a major problem, but they cant do anything about it warrenty wise because of the exhaust i have (austin racing arcs)

On top of that they said my cam chain tensioner wasnt working properly too, and they was going to change that.

Picked it up today, started it, usual 2 second exhaust rattle appears and disappears , then this other rattle appears and stays there for a few minutes!!

got them back out of the shop and of course it wouldnt do it again, they assure me its fine.

Got it back home and started it to wheel into garage and it does it again!

Seems it is intermitant, if you switch it off and start again it will stop, but on say the second or third start up it will do it again!

seeing as they switched the cam chain tensioner im guessing they didnt adjust it correctly??

going to have to get it back to them saturday now, was better before i took it in!!

Also while i had it on front and rear paddock stands, i noticed a few drips of petrol coming from one of the overflow pipes poking out the bottom of the bike? looked under there and you could see petrol fumes coming from the pipe?
anyone know why it did that? petrol tank was only half full?

Despite all the rattles and noises etc the bike runs and rides fine.

Mmmm i have that little rattle on start but the BMW Tech has not found where its from yet

Not sure bout s1000rr but most cam tensioners are Hydraulic/Mechanical they are driven out by oil pressure but also have a ratchet built into them to make sure it does not back off too far

Thought i saw one of the vendors offering a straight Mechanical one

Sounds like the CCT stuck between two adjusment points to me. Give it a good spanking it'll go away or break altogether. My Yam did that all the while, never damaged anything but Yam changed it anyway. Yours is a new one - probably needs to be adjusted again?

It is a hydraulic cam chain tensioner. They have a check ball that keeps them pumped up for a while--usually. Could be a bad new one.
