Default Odd Engine Noise and Ticks

Ok so I am getting some Ticks out of the motor at pretty much all RPM ranges. From what I have been reading on other posts it seems like it could be the cam chain tensioner. Its a 2011 and in addition to the ticking it has some very odd head noise when it is coming down from being revved for a moment, like the valve train is trying to catch up or something. I know this is not very descriptive but I would appreciate any help that could be offered.

Thanks

I have been hearing the same kind of noises on my 2010. It is new (250 miles) and from the beginning I have heard strange sounds (because I don't hear these noises from my other bikes) as the RPMs drop. I've also hear the ticking sound as well. My bike is currently in service and I asked them to diagnose this potential issue. I will let you know what they say.

Guys, let's avoid the panic reaction. We're a LONG ways from "every bike is going to grenade" or even "most bikes are going to grenade".

Mark, my reply is not from a panic reaction. I feel secure with the 3 year 36000 mile warranty they afforded us on our bikes. My reply was from a recent observation of my experience. If my motor were to grenade, I'm sure it would have shown more signs by now. Running across this thread lead me to reading other cam failure threads which lead to my learning of the ticking noise from the manifold butterfly's.

So you guy's shouldn't "panic" as BMW stands firmly behind their product per their warranty. It's a good thing we have a place to discuss our indivdual experiences, eliminating the pain-stacking process of diagnostics. Since this model is new, I'm sure alot of dealer's are experiencing the learning curve similar to us users at this point. As I stated earlier, I now have over 2500 miles since hearing the noise. I feel confident it wasn't a faulty cam causing it, if it was I still have 2 years or 25000 miles to go before I truly have to be worried.
