Default Really stupid problem replacing high beam.

My low beam burned out recently, and replaced it with a premium Sylvania H7 bulb, stock wattage, etc. No problem, cap off, pop out bulb, snap in new bulb, cap on.

Since the new bulb is whiter than the original, and since I bought a pack of two, I decided to change the high beam as well. Cap off, pop out bulb... wait. I can't get the new bulb to snap in solidly. It is lined up correctly, pushes in, but the retaining tabs don't seem to hold it firmly and it slides loose with any tug or vibration. Swapped the bulb with the low beam to be sure it isn't a mis-manufactured base, low beam still snaps in and out, high beam still doesn't want to stay.

Anyone else experience this? I'm reluctant to try and work a screwdriver or similar in there to pry on the tabs from fear of bending something and having to replace the entire headlight assembly.

I just tweaked the retaining lugs using just my fingers. The lugs have a bit of give in them and I got a nice tight fit. I wouldn't use a tool to bend the lugs as you're more likely to snap them that way.

Double check that nothing is melted.

I had a very similar problem.. Even posted on this site about it last summer.

Ended up getting the headlight assembly replaced under warranty.

It was actually the smaller running light bulb that did the melting of the housing.

It distorted the housing enough that neither bulb would fit correctly.

Default total brilliance. bulb housing a let down to complicated

such a great bike in all aspects. but what a barstard set-up to retain the bulbs. i use a srew- driver to hold the bulb in place, then a 90 degree scriber to pull clip over the base of the bulb holds firm
