Differential flush?? WTF
Hey guys, Just reached the 11000km mark in five months of riding and the little 'service' flag went up on the instrument panel. I rang the local Motorrad service people and told them I didn't need the oil, filters and front brake pads done as I'm used to doing it all myself more regularly than the schedule suggests. I asked them out of interest what else needed to be done and, after he confirmed my model of bike, I was told the following:
Plug in / diagnostics (fair enough about that),
Flush and replace front and rear brake fluid (more regularly than I thought but fair enough....prolly do it myself anyway), AND
Flush and replace differential oil (WTF?).
OK...I didn't think I was stupid but slap my a$$ and call me girlie names if the S1000rr has a self-contained differential and I didn't know about it. Has anyone else here heard of a differential flush and diff oil replacement in any S1000 service schedule??
If I find out that they're trying to take me for a ride (pardon pun) I'm gonna tell em to stick their services where the sun doesn't shine. Then I'll name and shame.

You need to call them back and let them know you're part of the "chain gang".
Somehow your dealer hasn't woken up yet to the fact BMW has a few belt and chain driven models, and not all the engines are boxers. My god, how could they even let that slip out w/o an immediate apology?
Ask them if they should inspect your weak center stand as well.

LOL, I'd hope to believe they got the models mixed when looking at their computer screen. If not, I'd say stay as far away from that dealer as possible. The brake fluid's intervals are annually per a quote I don't remember the source: Change brake fluid - initially after one year, then every two years.

Right,..... Let's see, there are no other models that start with the letter "S" (F, G, K, R - that about covers that). There are no other models that are one liter in displacement (450, 650, 800, 1100, 1150, 1200, 1300, 1600 - that's about it). And there are none that end in "RR" in the last 50 years - if ever. Yup, a computer screwup for sure.

Poor chap quoted that for a shaft drive! Probably a simple mistake as he's probably quoting shaft drive maintenance breakdowns 95% of the time!

Hmm, you have a point. Then I'd suggest to "stay as far away from that dealer as possible. lol

Thanks guys. You're all champions for confirming my suspicions!
I'll ring him up and check that he's got my model right otherwise he'll probably charge me for a new flux capacitor as well as labour for rotating the tyres. The GS911 definitely sounds like the way to go. There's some awesome threads on here covering software too.
