Default Silkolene Pro 4 10/40

My local bike shop only stocks Silkolene Pro 4 10/40 fully synthetic at £46.16 for 4 ltrs. Anyone tried it.

I've started doing track days so want to keep the internals nice and smooth, especially the down changes!

Thanks

BMW recomends that you use only 5W/40 castrol power one, which of course, is only available from them.

I asked them if it would be ok to use 10/40 in the bike and they pretty much said no.

Although i have heard of people using 10/40 and other oils without a problem..

Yer, thats my problem. My head says its an engine, pretty much the same as any other, and that fully syn 10/40 will be fine. Reading through the threads no one seems to have had a problem with other oils. In fact I think I read that in some cases the gear box action improved.

I did a track day last week end, and found the box a bit clunky on down changes, so anything that helps smooth this out would be a bonus.

Those who have changed to 10/40 would you say:
Not so good...........no different..............slight improvement

Thanks, any advice would be great.

Check my oil thread on this forum. 10W40 Full Synth is no problem and also recommended on the user manual. Amen.

Fat-dad, I use Silkolene PRO 4 Plus 5w-40. Good stuff, but expensive. I usually order my oil on line from Opie Oils. 4 liters would cost you about £55.00 if you're not a member.

Cool thanks, I think I'll give that a go.

I might need to start another thread on when to change the oil if you are doing track days. I was thinking I might need to change it after every 3. I'm not pushing it that hard, so I think thats often enough?

Thanks for the Opie Oils tip.
