you can, but you need the dealer to remove the rev limiter

Pay the dealer the $200 to do the first service as your warrennty could be void if the first one is not done by BMW ....After that buy a case of oil and 3 OEM filtiers ....Have them install the slick plug too.

Not in the US... Now if there is something that you do (or don't do) to the bike if you opt to do the first service and it causes an issue, that issue may not be covered... but your warranty doesn't get voided!

That being said, as it was stated earlier... you will need to take it in for them to remove the Rev. Limiter, they're the only ones able to do that.

As a side note, my bike has never been to the Dealer for a service... mine didn't come with the rev limiter (pre-order) so I've done all my oil changes, bike checks, steering head torque, etc. My bike has been in for some of the Service Campaigns and one warranty issue on a crankcase cover... no issues.

true, dont let dealers fool you, although they arent bad. BUT not taking it to them for service, does NOT void the warranty.

I plan on taking my bike in for the first service (for obvious reasons). After that the only thing I worry about is the service engine light on the dash staying on as I do my own oil changes. Surely BMW wont void the warranty if I keep documentation of oil and filter purchases, but do I have to just get used to the service indicator staring at me?

True Tank... my own reasoning for not taking it to the dealers really has nothing to do with my Dealer... I've actually grown to think they are the best I've ever dealt with... and I've had my fair share of dealings

My servicing my own bike has more to do with me living up in the Mountains a couple hours from my Dealer, so it's not too convenient to get down there. Plus I like tinkering w/my bike... help me resolve, work on any other issues that might arise down the road since some things become more familiar once you work on your bike yourself.

What I did (for this very reason) is buy the GS-911 diagnostic tool. Plugs into the service connector on your BMW (most BMW bikes) and to your phone or laptop and you can reset the service light and next due date amongst reading and resetting codes and doing other diagnostics.
