Default Chain Adjusters

Okay I've been searching not only here but in the wild to find out how exactly chain adjusters work.

I mean why should I spend $200 for something I can do by hand and a few tools. I assume it makes it uber easy but I just don't understand. Could someone please give me a quick overview? I mean if I can adjust in like 3 minutes without lifting the bike it is a positive....

iv got a nice lil set of blue lightec ujusters on mine there an amazingly beautiful bit of kit they look amazing, and that is a big reason people buy them.

but the ujustment quality and refinement is proper u really cant get it wrong and is in perfect tiny mm increments.

u could if u wanted with the bmw tool bag ujust the chain with them, ull need the spindle nut tool, and the 12 mm spanner, and ur laughing, without putting the bike on a stand..............

they are very very nice and i love them, they also act as the ujuster block that would fall out if and when u take ur wheel out these are bolted in so u only need to remove the spindle...........

iv never had these on any other bike and now ill put them on all of my bikes............

and the install is again a lovely job well enjoyable.......

I really like that Gilles nut on that video. Anyone using this nut? If so, what do you think of it? How does it actually lock?

Any clue if it requires the same torque as the OEM. I would suspect not since it uses the allen head locks. If so, does Gilles give new torque #'s?

The torque required isn't to hold the nut on the axle, it's to hold the axle in place in the swingarm, so regardless of what nut you use the torque is going to be the same.

I completely agree. They are a sight to look at and also make adjusting chain tension as well as keeping the wheel striaght, thanks to the ratcheting action built within the adjuster

I have the Lightec Chain Adjsuter and Gilles Ti axle nut. Chain adjuster as said above is super slick. Precise adjustment, no thinking, no axle blocks to hold in place when you remove the wheel. Gilles axle nut I bought for the bling, but it also has the safety feature of a locking bolt. Would buy them both again in a heart beat!
