Default oil change

Well After having the bike for 2 weeks and 500 miles i have changed the oil.
At 4400 miles this is my drain plug at the 2nd oil change.
It was changed at the normal break in rev limiter was removed.

I did a search and i see many of you have the same metal shaving on the drain plug. So we will see how it goes. I will keep all of the receipts for the oil and filters and hope it holds up but i must say i have never seen this much metal from any oil change being other bikes, cars or jetskiis.

BTW advanced auto sell Mobil1 4T 10w-40 for our bikes for $9.99..

after my 600 mile service I changed mine at 3000 miles Not ats bad as yours. I had one sliver almost as long as your longest, but it was un-measurablely thin. I was like "wow" but not worried. I do change my oil every 2500 to 3000 so we will see what it looks like at 6K

I just changed my oil again last night at 7700 miles and the oil was cleaner but still the same amount of metal was attached to the drain plug.

Oh well..

Where are you guys buying oil filters on line at? I'm assuming Hard Racing or the sort sells them. I get my bike in about a month and I don't have a local BMW shop here in Sicily. Any advice on oil.....and yes I know its individual choice and all.

Thanks in advance!

I use Mobil One full synthetic. Some of my friends use Royal Purple. You may use regualr oil if you on the budget then again IMO you bought BMW and it is a race motorcycle not a cruiser Between all my bikes about 80k miles never had a problem.for filter I use K&N. I do not suggest using FRAM.

OMG, those are some pretty large pieces of metal shaving you have there, have you been in contact with your local BMW dealership to make them aware of this?
It might be a non issue but won't hurt....IMO

I agree with the argument that most of the metal is from the trans. Not too many bikes have magnetic drain plugs and this is probably why.
