required maintenance costs and warranty?
anybody get the straight talk on required maintenace costs on the 1000rr.
my dealers have been vague, maybe they really dont know yet. asked at the new york bike show today. bmw guy was also vague but "guessed" in the 15 to 18,000 mile interval for valves. did not know how difficult a job it is or the cost. i have been spoiled by japanese sportbikes. you can wail on them (after proper warm-up) and they just ask for more, never break, and no expensive maintenance. i am a little scared because 4 years ago i almost bought the big bmw tourer. that is til i was told the second service was over $1,000. bought an electra glide instead. anyone got good data on this topic.

Valves are done at similar intervals as the Japs... other than that I didn't see anything crazy in the owner's manual. It's on the forum somewhere. It'll give you some additional info.

Dunno, but my experience with the BMWK44 engine (K1200GT) has been that the valve "check" I had done which also included the ABS brake fluid flush (every two years seems the norm now on BMW ABS units), oil, filter, air filter, coolant change, and plugs ran me about $550 and that was at one of the lesser hourly rate dealers in CA. Most seemed to be between $500 to $700 and if they do need to adjust the valves where they have to pull the cam to place in a shim, then it goes up another $150 to $200 above that. Luckily, not too many have needed an "adjust" rather than a "check" all the way up to 24K+ miles.
The online BMW manual for the bike found on this site tells the service intervals. I think the first was around 400-700 miles which I can do in a week easily if I buy in the late Spring. I plan to negotiate the first service into the sale (if I can!) and pre-schedule it and give it back to them in a week. Probably just oil, filter, chain lube and adjust.
If you talk to the Service Manager at a dealer, they may have the hourly rates on the BMW computer for the services by now. I'd bet the gal at Ozzie's BMW in No. CA already has that info. My local dealer just had his mechanics attend the service school on the BMW S, and now has to send two sales reps to the BMW meeting next Tuesday (26th) to get the key to the bike, learn about it, and ride them. BMW pays for the dinner and drinks, but the dealer picks up the travel expenses, so I was told.

$$$ maintenance
Little put off by the $400 bill for the 600 mile check up and rev limiter removal. But after pulling 13,000 revs after leaving the dealership, forgot all about the bill and just tried to hold on a little tighter!! Love this bike!! Having owned an M3 and now a 540i Dinan, I truely think BMW makes the most appreciated piston driven vehicles on this planet (for enthusiast of course)...enjoy,GK.

You should NOT have to pay to have the rev limiter removed. IF you paid the dealer to do it MAKE them give you a refund for the amount they charged you to do it. It is warranty work and customers don't pay for warranty work. It is as simple as that.

You paid over 100.00 too much for this service.

First service is just an oil change and a few checks, you shouldn't pay more than $200.
