Default Smoke after dropping on left side

Regrettably, I lost control on gravel and dropped my bike on a left side. I did not have a drop sensor so the bike was running for a few seconds until I turned it off. Having picked it up, I was not able to start it after many attempts, but eventually it started with a lot of white smoke. I was about 100 miles from home on that canyon road and there were no malfunction indicators so I decided to go slowly and see what happens. The smoke stopped after riding for a mile or so. I did not observe any other noticeable operational problems or leaks. I was riding the bike fine since than.

I thought the bike ended-up with only cosmetic damages. But I read people talking here about possible engine problems after dropping a bike specifically on a left side. I was thinking to bring the bike to a dealer for a check-up but I'm not sure they would not charge me for something that I don't really need. So I would prefer to do this inspection myself. This is actually my first bike and I'm willing to learn this stuff.

Could you please suggest what I should check or look for to make sure I don't have any hidden or possible problems? Thank you.

youre going to need to pull your plugs, check compression/leakdown and check your oil for bearing material.

your fine man, you just got oil in your air box, if a bike can’t take a little drop it's not worth pushing off a cliff IMO. I have tossed many a bike down the road and unless it had a knurly highside or you eat through a case cover your fine!

+ a bike does not even start to get character until it’s got some road rash on it!

Just take off the air box and check how much oil is inside ,wipe it out and get the breather tube mod ,fit it and go enjoy your bike. The fact it started is a good sign, go get a drop sensor and fit it asap

Was polishing the floor with knee wax, had a slide on the left. Slid about 100 ft on the frame slider, swingarm cotton reel, and sidestand. Barely scratched anything, didn't even move the mirror.

Hit the kill switch, but it was already off. Picked up bike, wouldn't start, mangled the side stand switch. Pulled off what was left, twisted the white and brown together, and away I went!

Side stand switch was the drop sensor for me.

I'd view this as probably a binary thing - if it didn't hydrolock and destroy the engine on startup, then you're probably Okay. I'd monitor how it is running and perhaps do an oil analysis on your next change, but what else is there to do but run it and hope for the best?

some oil probably made it in. You were simply burning it off. If the smoke's gone, the airbox is likely cleared out, and all you need to do is check the engine oil level.
