Default 6000 Mile service/inspection

Has anybody made it to 6000 miles yet and had the BMW service done? I'm at about 5700 miles and probably will have my service done next week. Does anybody know what they do or what it costs?

Now on 8000 miles - - 2000 last week, including track day @ Snetterton and 3 days in the ardennes (nice bedny roads and loadza sun - big smiles all round)

My service was actually done @ 4800 miles when the camshaft was replaced :-(

Therefore FOC - some good news then!

Had new front discs fitted last week too . . .

Tyres - Same as above the original K3 lasted about 1400 miles. Been on M5 interacts since then, 3rd one getting closed now. Getting over 2500 miles from the rear which is good for a bike like this....
One thing I would mention re: the M5's is that I usually run 2 rears to one front. But the handling was definately going off the front by 4000 miles. Was having to push the bike into corners more and more. replaced the front with plenty of tread left and the bike was transformed again . . .
Apart from that - great tyres, wet and dry :-)
Running 33F and 37R. seems spot on. Also had them nitro filled which does give consistency. Worth it if you can.

Front bake pads replaced at about 6500 miles. Although the track probably helped kill them off sooner!

One odd thing has been the chain. didnt have to adjust it at all untill about 7000 miles. Always keep it clean and lubed, but even so, for a near 200 bhp bike this does seem very good . . .

All in all a top time has been had with the new toy :-)
Awesome bike.
France again in 3 weeks . . . . .

Happy and fast riding

Mark

Yes - not actually sure they were required....
Went to pick up my new brake pads from BMW last week and they fitted them for me whan I asked nicely :-) FOC fitting - wow!
£109 for the pads - not to bad I guess?

However when I left the dealer massive front end juddering when I braked.
Returned to dealer, who said are you sure !?!?!?!

They took it our for a ride and said it was juddering.
No **** sherlock . . .

Left the bike with them and tooled off on a GS1200 (surprsingly good fun - mucho slow, but a hoot around roundabouts)

Picked the bike up the following day and they had repleced the discs.
I would have thought incorrect fitting of pads was more likely but who am I to complain? New discs FOC.
And the brakes now work fine of course . . .

I have heard the discs warp when raced heavy, but I'm sure they are more then adequate for us mere mortal road riders.
And they are quite superb brakes . .

i have a question about that 6000 miles service, the dealer said they wont switch to full synth till my 6000 miles service, i dunno that seems odd maybe a bmw thing? my yamaha was using full sythn after the break in, they said there are going to use bmw mineral oil till its fully broken in, that sounds like a load to me

Odd, Jaso MA2 is what bmw "recommends" (strongly i might add). I SHOULD go in after the 600 mile breakin period.

i think i am gonna call up BMWNA or look it up in the manual because usuing mineral oil for 6000 miles sounds just plain stupid, but yet again might be a bmw thing

Pretty sure that for any BMW, especially the S1000RR, you can put synthetic in a the 600 mile service. EXCEPT for the the r1200 boxer engines which you need to wait until the 6,000 mile mark to use synthetic. Of course there is an exception to the exception as the new dual overhead cam bpxers now use 10w40 I THINK you can put synthetic in at 600 miles.

For sure you can put synthetic in the S1000RR at the 600 and any time after.

I had my oil changed at about 2000 miles,by the bmw dealer, they used Castrol Power 1 Racing-which is a full synthetic.
