Ok here goes.

Remove the 7 torx screws holding the top cover on the tank (3 on each side and 1 in the front). Take off the cover. Then remove the 1 torx srew holding the ecu in place located in the just to the left of center in the front. Unclip the wire harness holder on the left of the ecu (dont remove the wire harness from the ecu just unclip the bracket holding it secure). You now need to pull the ecu forward a little and swivel it straight up on its end. This is where most people give up but keep trying it does go up with a little bit of fiddling. Now you can see the airbox intake. There is a piece in front and the behind it is the aircelaner housing. A pop-in screw secures the front bit. Use a star screw driver and unscrew the srew until you can pull out the pop screw. Slide out the front housing straight up. On either side of the rear part holding the aircleaner in a clip. Unclip these and wiggle and pull our the housing holding the air cleaner. Replace the air cleaner and re-install in reverse sequence. It is no more than a 5 minute job once you have done it once.

i use a detail rag and lay it on the tank. you can swivel the ecu around and lay it on the rag to get it out of your way. the first time always sucks as you over think on how it comes apart. like nigel said, once you have done it its a 5 min job..

Don't forget to remove the vent hoses on each side of the tank on top first!! They are in the way when you pull the filter up.Be careful with them.

those vent hoses are a PITA to remove. I mean, the process is simple - grab and pull. But you have to sometimes pull like a mother and swear a bunch before they pop off...

I don't remove the hoses. It comes off without needing to pull them.

Do you unplug the small wire on the right of the ECU? It looks like it would get in the way.
