I put up the Ferodo XRAC and they feel amazing. Super progressive and incredible stopping power compared to stock.

I've just had the recall work done which included the new manual. One of the differences is that BMW emphasise the use of pads with at least a 4.5mm thick backing plate, apparently due to problems with some after-market pads not fitting properly. My dealer was strongly recommending BMW pads at £110 for the two front calipers - I guess he was following advice from BMW. This seems a bit steep to me and I've ususally paid around half that for good quality after-market pads such as EBC. Anyone know whcih pads meet the 4.5mm requirement ?

Stick with the stock pads until an aftermarket company makes a pad with a 4.5mm backing plate. The stock pads are Brembo and good enough for 95% of owners.

I went with PFC just to try something new and compare, but the backing plate is 4.0mm. Since there is only 3mm of material, I'm only working with about 1.7mm of usable pad material. We'll try the PFCs two weekends from now.

I recently fitted SBS sintered pads. When I ordered them from Bifracing, they told me they were the thin pads(04 Aprilia/Ducati)but gave me a good discount(easily compensating for replacing them sooner) and as pad thickness is easy to see i will keep an eye on them.
SBS are aware of the problem and may even have the thick pads now,as I am sure EBC will too.

Just for the record,SBS Dual Carbon pads are brilliant, wet or dry.I use them on my trackbike and wore the last set down to the metal(slightly, fortunately!)
with no fade at all-and that's on a Suzuki!
