Default Metal on Magnetic drain plug?

I'm aware that a certain amount of very small peices of metal are to be expected during break-in but in general at what point should we see a drop in sludge and at what size should we start to worry. I just did my 3rd oil change and I would be willing to say that this is the most I've seen since I started the process. There's a few peices about the size of click-click pencil lead but thin and about 1/4 of an inch long.

Concerning yet or just part of the process?

Did it look like this? (Sixth oil change, and worst yet.)

Mine was no where near that bad, my oil had a much newer look to it and not goopy as yours appears, it had maybe four single shreads with no underlying much.

Default Comparison

I changed my own oil at 4.5K miles. The first being at the dealer's 600 mile service.

Here is my plug at the 4.5K mark. A few slivers but not so bad. Hey,... its a real closeup.

And as for the oil itself. This gives you an idea of the consistancy and color. Yes, I took the left lower fairing off, and tried the tin-foil method. Not adrop of oil on the headers at all.

Now compare this.

I just changed the oil for the third time total and second time myself. This was done tonight (10/13/10) at 7.3K miles. So this is another 3 months and 2.8K miles on this Mobil 1 oil. The pictures are entirely different. No big shards or slivers, just some teeny, tiny pieces as I would expect. I've learned to manually shift smoother and don't use the quickshifter much at all any more. I do downshift a lot and do a pretty darn good job of matching and meshing the engine/gear speeds without need for hard or sloppy "blips". Think that's a difference? Anyhow, I'm much happier and the break-in seems to have settled down.
