Angry First service shock. Cost of oil!

A quick question: how much was the engine oil cost of your first service? Here in Australia I have just paid AUD$150 for 4 litres of Castrol The bike actually needs only 3.5l (according to the manual). I can buy a 4l pack of this oil for $60 retail. That's an exorbitant mark-up! Never encountered this practice with any other manufacturer.

So how much did you guys pay for the oil at first service? (I can do the currency conversion no probs). Thanks

I paid 680 SEK (Swedish Crowns) with a 30% discount.

My dealer uses Elf 4t full syn. Charges ZAR400 which is US$55. Can't be much mark-up there. And thats fine by me

There is nothing to say you can't supply your own if its upto BMW spec. The filter is a standard BMW item from other models gs1150 i think.

That's what I would call price gouging. I would suggest buying your own oil and handing it to the tech to install next time as they're charging you over twice the value of the oil in which they probably get a wholesale discount anyway. I bet they made a $100 profit on your oil alone.

$150 AUD = $127 USD.

I'd say you got it real good. Mine was $55 USD for the oil alone.

Total 1st service for me was $144, but that also included the rear lift BMW bobbin set too which was $33 alone, filter, release of the RPM limit, chain lube, and steering adjustment.

The do-it-all service and sales girl charged me 1/2 hour labor price of $36 even though the mechanic wrote 1 hour labor on the invoice since I bought it from her. Free steak and shrimp dinner too by the owner so I ain't complaining at all.

Only £71?!!!

That is cheap! My first service was £120 and from memory the oil was around £60 of it.

Insignis, what is your avatar? Looks faintly worrying...
