DTC HELP
Ok, had tires changed, now have 190/50 in rear, 120/70 in front. Didn't know I had been given 190/50 (ordered 190/55) until had tire on. Figured it should be ok, take off tonight to go watch UFC 141 and once I get above 30mph, DTC warning comes on (quick flashes) and keeps flashing. Any ideas? Manual says quick flashes are 'rear wheel instability'. Maybe tire put on wrong or bike won't accept 190/50??

Sounds like a PITA!
I didn't think the system was that sensitive to tire change.

I'm thinking something with the install maybe... the rear sensor? The reason being - when you first start the bike, the light will blink till you roll the bike forward for "X" number of feet.. at that point, the bike has just calculated the rolling diameters of the tires.. and your DTC should be good to go. The exception I've heard about is the profile of the tire being different and if you were at the track with a knee down, it may not like some of the different profiles... but the diameter should be OK... so going straight should be fine.
That's my understanding anyway.

so wheel must be on wrong? Maybe axel alignment? I'll recheck sensor but it wasn't touched. Maybe its not where its supposed to be though? I'll have to recheck it all.

Are you sure? To remove/install a tire, the ABS sensor has to slide past the rotor to get to the ABS ring (during install)... could have been bumped or something?!?

ok, took off rear wheel again to inspect abs/dtc sensor and looks good, but I got some scrapes on the brake right next to the sensor, BUT the sensor looks fine (don't know what would constitute damage, but it looks fine). So I reinstalled wheel (I don't think u can screw that up). Chain tension set to equal R/L hashmarks, torqued down (w/o torque wrench) to tight, but not stand on wrench tight and took her out for a spin.
So, now DTC didn't come on until 60mph (instead of 30-50mph) and this time it wasn't constant, so better.....but omg.....electronics......who knows. I didn't torque axel nut down as much this time, so maybe swingarm was pushing sensor too close to rotor?? Going to go to harbor freight and buy torque wrench.
I did front wheel as well with tire change, but it was def not touched. Frustrating. Any help appreciated, thx for the thoughts so far. Maybe will just turn off dtc and work on wheelies, lol..

What i have read is the bikes etc is set up for 190 55. If u go on bows site they have a list of tire that are approved for the s1rr's electronics. It does say other tires will work but not one listed is a 50. I was told by BMW tech it only works with a 55. The test when u first start the bike only checks that the system is working not tire size.

This is where a gs911 would be handy. It can show you if the sensor signal is dropping out.

I am still of the opinion something's up w/the sensor(s)... especially now that you mentioned there is a scrape. Whether you're removing OR installing... the disk goes right by the sensor and can damage it if you're not careful. If you were closer, you could borrow my GS-911, which btw I wasn't aware that it tested the ABS sensors
Between a 55 and a 50 series rear, there is ~1cm difference. Doesn't seem like much, but the reality is - it is. I would still think the initial calibration the bike does during startup would take care of it, but maybe not?? Personally, I would rather have the 55 anyway... Plus you're probably slowing your turn in, and potentially will also have a tendency to run wide on exits of turns... unless you've adjusted the ride height for the change in tire height. But these would be at faster pace, not sure you'd see notice too much on the street (you might a little though).
That's my $.02...
Know anyone else w/an S1???? If so, see if you can swap rears for a test to see if it's the 50 vs. 55 or if it's the sensor.
