1st Service To-do's
Question to dealers (or members who had their bike serviced already):
Do you have a detailed list of what is performed at the 1st service? I assume oil and filter and checking body bolts, but what else is being torqued, etc.
Just curious.

Don't know yet, but mine goes in tomorrow !
I'll be sure to ask the Service Manager exactly what is done, then pass it on.

I haven't had any issues yet either, but I'll tell them it's hard to find neutral to appease some of you and to see what they say (and to have them note it for the record). I am also having them activate the drop sensor I installed, so I'll see what kind of add-on charge they come up with, and if they actually update any firmware on the bike.
Another thing is to ask and note which oil filter and which oil they use for this post break-in service. I'll be changing the oil from now on, and think I'll see if they use synthetic yet. If not, I may run another few hundred miles on dino or dino/syn mix before switching to full syn.
Anything else you want to know?

Probably a chain adjust and the steering head bearing check/retorque are the time consuming parts to the 600 mile service other than the oil and filter. Most other things are visual checks--tire tread depth and pressures, brake fluid levels, brake lines/hoses visual check. There's not much to it really. There really isn't much to the K1200/1300 600 mile services either.
If you don't want your tires to standard 36 front and 42 rear, let them know when you drop off your bike what pressures you run.

I've asked about the 600 mi 1st service, dealer printed out a checklist and breakdown of parts/labor/work to be performed.
approx. $225 for parts $90 & labor $135

Thanks for posting that up SF1000RR!
Does anyone know what adjusting the Steering Head Bearing is about - what it entails, any special tools, torque numbers, pictures, etc. etc. Sounds like something that might need to be checked periodically anyway?!

There's a special pin wrench/socket that loosenes the nut under the top triple clamp. That nut is the one that adjusts the torque on the steering head bearings. Actually theres two under there. One locks the adjuster nut in place. I don't know how much it costs but it is a BMW tool so I'd say it's $100 bucks or so. Call your dealer for a price.

I'm not interested in buying all the special tools... but that's good info. I wondered if that's what those two were for (under the triple). Is there actually a torque rating that this tool will tighten down to or is more procedural to ensure it's tight enough?
Thanks Viper!

I think you just tighten it to spec for the adjust. I will look it up tomorrow to make sure.
