Question Optimoly TA ???

In the BMW Service manual it specifies using something called Optimoly TA to lubricate the wheel axles. Do you use this or an alternative? If so what is best?

I was taught by a master BMW mechanic to use anti-seize on the axles. That was years ago, but am still using it anytime the wheels come off.

Just keep some kind of lubricant on it for ease of installation and removal. Anti seize works well. So does grease. Anti seize will last longer and won't attract dirt/dust as much as grease.

Sounds like Molybdenum DiSulphide Grease-it's usually dark grey in colour.
I have used LM Grease for years with no problems.

I've been known to alternate between anti-seize and moly on different bikes and different times. If you have a Honda shop close by, even BMW guys with final gear drives rave about a Honda moly product. I think it's called Moly 60 or something like that. I've been using that for axles for a while. Coats well, doesn't fling. Pretty good. Yeah, its dark gray or charcoal colored.

As mentioned above the Honda Molly 60 Paste is good stuff. I use it or Mobil 1 Synthetic grease that is suitable for high temps and moisture resistant. The coating just aids in assembly and prevents corrosion on the axle.

I just use a heavy duty wheel bearing grease and never had any problems.

The grease is there just for the axle to be removed easier. If you are worried about dirt just clean them and relube them whenever you change tires.
