"" gopro hero 3 feedback needed "*
.
Ok, so as most of you probably already know, there is a ALL NEW GoPro HERO 3 coming out soon.
Faster, Smaller, Lighter, Better Quality, Built In Wi-Fi..etc..etc.
This Post is a General Discussion on what your opinion on the Two Models coming out of HERO 3.
They have the SILVER SERIES, which is is basically an updated HD Hero 2 camera with WiFi built in, the thinner size and and improved housing.
1080p/30fps, 960p/48fps, 720p/60fps
11MP photos
Up to 10 shots per second in photo burst mode
And then for $100 MORE.. They have a BLACK SERIES, Which includes the WiFi Remote ($80 value) and a better Camera
4K/15, 2.7K/30, 1440p/48fps, 1080p/60fps, 960p/100fps, 720p/120fps
12MP photos
New photo burst modes with up to 30 shots per second
There are hundreds of way to use and mount a GoPro. But, the most common, is Mount on your Bike, or Mount on your Helmet.
In these situations, it's a TOTAL PITA to have to (POWER ON, Make sure it's on, START. Recording, STOP Recording, POWER OFF, Switch to Camera Mode, Take some Rapid Shots, Switch Back to Video, Change Video Settings...etc..etc..)
That's where the WiFi Remote comes in. You strap it to your wrist like a Watch, and it has a MATCHING LDD Screen to exactly what your Camera is doing. Plus, a Big ON / OFF and Record Button.
So what's your opinion on what GoPro is doing.
Is it worth spending $100 MORE for the Better Camera and the WiFi Remote ?
or would you just using your iPhone, or Droid device as a remote instead . and save the $100.?
Once again, just a General Discussion on these models. This isn't to debate GoPro vs. something else, or what they sell for.... etc. JUST Discussion on GoPro's Decision to have these two models.

I will end up buying the black this spring. I use it 70% for track days.
So the phone will not work for a remote.
Second I want the better camera. This might end being my primary good camera. Gotten lazy over the yrs to carry my SLR camera.

Very true. Using your Phone as Remote, has limitations. A lot of them.

I would consider the more expensive model JUST for the higher quality rec options. Frames Per Second (FPS) is a huge priority when capturing anything with speed. Im surprised that I had to explain to most of my friends that decided to shoot with the highest resolution (1080p) that their footage still looked choppy when they viewed it on TV because of the lower FPS (30fps at 1080p). Even my snowboarder friends footage looked choppy, and they are moving at a fraction of the speed encountered when riding motorcycles. I have the hero2 and still only use the 720/60fps since its still high def and contains the highest fps option.
That being said, I would definitely like to see the overall quality of the new, higher end model. Im sure I would get some use out of the remote as well, but I think I could def get by using a phone as well. Especially when doing snowboarding shoots. Ive never really had any qualms about having to press record on the camera before I leave for a run, or a track session, as I will edit all the extra footage out anyways. I think getting the $80 remote is a bonus, but not something I will always use.

Agreed.
The Higher Frame Rate for HD, seems to be the best part of the new HERO 3.
Specially for Motorsports.
