Default What's the deal with exhaust prices?

Just asking. I can get a full catback system for my 370Z for less than every option i've seen for my S1000RR. What drives up the prices on bike exhausts? Is it less supply less demand? Or is it that much more expensive to R&D a motorcycle exhaust vs a performance car? I know you gotta pay to play, but 1/10th the price of the bike? Thoughts?

Some companies put a bit of R&D into the systems, not that the Auto industry doesn't either. It's probably some combination of that along w/supply and demand. S&D is at the heart of everything. People (many) are just willing to pay it unfortunately.

From our side of the fence its a lot to do with R&D but as well as the complexity of the pipe design. Motorcycle take so interesting bends and pipe sizes to make them run the best. Sizing up pipe and bending it the right way is a complex process. Also car exhaust are also very simple in design, and the bigger radius pipe is cheaper to get and work with.

Hope that shed a bit of light. And just so you know we are having a sale on all our parts for the BMW

Supply and demand? With several different companies making exhaust systems for the S1, I would think that their volume of sales would be lower.

I have paid as much as $5k for my Akra car exhaust and as little as $1K for my Akra dirt bike exhaust. So, it seems that pricing is in line with what you would expect for each different system.
