Default PCV and auto tune questions

Just ordered an auto tune and have the PCV (not installed).

This will be the first time that I am installing a Power Commander and auto tune and would just like to know if there is anything I must make sure that I do and things I must make sure that I don't do.

I have watched this video (Dankie dat jy dit op gesit het Nigel):
YouTube - ‪2010 BMW S1000 Power Commander V installation‬‏

I have heard someone talk about a 6 gear map. I am getting the ARCS system from AR and they have sent me a map for that. Does anyone know if this is a good map to begin with?

If it would be possible to give me a step by step on what to do after the installation on the computer to set up the auto tune. Thanks!

Installation is pretty easy if you follow the video carefully. The only thing that might confuse you if the Autotune O2 sensor.

In the video, the Autotune's O2 sensor is already installed on the bike, but this is something you'll need to do. The sensor will be installed on your AR pipe. You'll of course need to disconnect your stock O2 sensors.

After the installation, you'll need to enable Autotune with the PCV. For this, install the PCV software on a laptop and connect the laptop to the PCV with the supplied Mini-USB cable. Launch the PCV software and click on "Power Commander Tools -> Configure -> Autotune". Enable the option for Autotune over there.

Once done, you can start the bike and you'll see live RPM and AFR ratio on your computer screen. Then in the PCV software, load the AR map that you have and use the "Send Map" button to send the map to PCV.

If your fuel type and setup is similar to what that map was developed for, it should be a good start.

As far as do's/don'ts... just don't calibrate the throttle (TPS)... that must be done on a dyno w/wide open throttle runs since this bike is fly by wire.

There is a 6-gear map setup in the DIY section if you're interested in doing that. If you got the AutoTuner, I'd recommend doing it for sure. Other than that, the installation video is helpful and overall it is pretty straight forward.

If you get stuck though, post up your question(s).

Default results?

I'd like to know "real world" results for these two installs.

Is it necessary to disconnect the stock o2 sensors? I'm guessing just unplug the connection instead of actually removing them from the exhaust.

Thats correct, you can just unplug the connector. The neater way to do is to remove the O2 sensor and plug the hole in the exhaust pipe with the O2 sensor plug that comes with the exhaust.

Any error codes from not having the stock ones in? I'm sure there are, but their hidden codes?

No visible error codes. The dealer never said anything during the last service.

If you're just running the PCV, just disconnect the electrical connection. If you're running the AutoTuner, you're gonna have to put in the Auto Tuner's O2 sensor.

No errors from the PCV/AutoTuner install, although the dealer (I'm pretty sure) can tell if you have it installed. If you go w/an aftermarket exhaust, the errors from not having the exhaust servos hooked up will show up at the Dealer... but not on your dash.

Now... put your jacket on when you go out for weekend rides... that white tee shirt (this past Saturday) won't help ya too much if the pavement doesn't play nice with you My buddy just went down (low sided) yesterday, he was OK, but his jacket certainly saved his hide (literally).
