Default Leo Vince mapping and more.

Hello all!

I'm about to enter my first season on a S1000RR. Having spent my last couple of years on four wheels it's great to be back on a bikes again.

Through, hmm I guess we can call them sponsors, I have gotten a Leo Vince Factory Evo II exhaust that'll go on the bike.

I'd like to know the following:

1) Is it ok to run the bike with the new exhaust on without taking it to the dyno? From reading I would say yes but I would rather not mess anything up.

2) Would you recommend swapping in a K&N or equivalent?

3) The bike will be set up on a dyno. What is the preferred method when doing this? Through a Power Commander or re-flashing of the stock ECU or...?

Thanks in advance!

1) Yes, you can run it just like it is. You can find additional power, improved response, and better throttle smoothness with a Power Commander (PCV). If you have a Power Commander, you could load on a map from the DynoJet website and may be OK. You could take it to a Dyno shop and have them do a custom map (on the PCV). Or you could buy an AutoTuner (in addition to the PCV) and let it (the AutoTuner) create your own custom map for you conditions.

2) I'm running the BMC Race filter. You may see minimal increases from an aftermarket filter, but if there is an increase it is very minimal 1-2hp. Another reason to consider doing an aftermarket filter is that it is reusable and if you get caught up in the rain, it will likely perform/react better to the wet conditions than the stock filter.

3) Power Commander. Dyno shops generally aren't reflashing the ECU... gotta send if off for that. So its easier (and probably cheaper) to buy a PCV and have a custom map (at a Dyno shop) made or AutoTuner as mentioned in #1 above.

Good luck, congrats, and welcome aboard!

I recently put a full Leo EVO II on my bike, no PCV or Bazaaz, and it's running excellent! Will you need an additional 1-2hp beyond the 10-12 the exhaust alone will give you, likely not.

I also was told by a friend and professional in the industry that works closely with many S1K race teams, that an aftermarket air filter is not necessary and can likely cause problems with too much air flow, unless one does go with a PCV and remapping.

I'm experiencing what feels like a much smoother power curve, particularly in the mid range, and that's just with the exhaust only. My suggestion, contingent upon if you are racing or not, save yourself several hundred $$$ and just try the exhaust first.

cheers!
