Akrapovic Slip On Question

I've decided to start with an Akrapovic slip on and the exhaust valve mod to add a little more flavor to my '13.

Some bike pics show the slip on with a carbon knuckle below the can, covering the pipe where it curves under the bike. Others do not.

The actual slip on retail page photo on Revzilla and other online guys don't show this carbon knuckle either. I think it looks good / better than the raw pipe curving in and under the bike.

Is this a standard part of the slip on or is it an add-on piece?

Edit.....ok now I see it's the heat shield. Makes sense. Is this a standard part of the slip on package?
