Forum Exhaust research exhaustion
Two month wait for my 2012, so i thought id read the threads on Exhaust so i could make my own decision when mine arrives.....
Dont mean to bitch but the threads are exhausting (pun) to say the least. Its near a turn off with the constant contradiction and mixed opinion as to what Piggyback / Stock ECU, warranty, if, where, when and why required.
It makes you realise that the bike is powerful enough and are you needing to win a world championship? or does ego state that 191.53 rwhp must be attained like that bloke form overseas.
I wish there were factual documented statements / "laboratory" facts that would put these threads to bed. I'd be then happy for the decat weight save and noise + ponnies for less than the effort of having a bad ****.
Slip on for me….my .02 cents

Any full exhaust you put on will shave at least 15lbs and gain HP. I put the taylormade on and it weighs about 20lbs less. I love how there is no actual muffler sticking up. It comes out the side of a carbon belly pan.

I had some weird aversion to that huge cat from the beginning, had to get rid of it, and I like it loud. So no brainer. Anything would have worked really, but the austin pipes are damn sexy. Some people like the stock look, some like the sound quiet, some like long slip ons, some want shorties, etc etc. Its what you want for your bike. If you're not feelin an exhaust, don't do it. Spend the money on suspension or wheels or track days or whatever suits ya.

here is my .2 cents
Exhaust is a waste IMO (unless you are racing and need every HP you can get out of the bike) the 15 lbs you will save is weight that’s low on the bike and you can’t feel it because it's under the CG, spend your $ on what you want it's your $$ but there are way better things to spend that on IMHO

At this point I'm looking to get rid of the cat. I want a bike that runs cooler engine temp wise. I beleive the cat is the cause of higher temps. I plan on buying an Arrow header and match it up with the GP2 slip on.
Good luck with your modding which ever way you go with it.

my two reasons for buying an exhaust:
-looks good
-louder than stock but not too loud
everything else doesn't matter (to me) unless its a race bike. I'm one of the people that, based on my 4 short years of riding experience, feels like 193hp is A LOT of power. Many riders here have had much more seat time, race, or just plain need more horsepower. To each his own. I'm sure all the brands sound a little different but they're all about 10-15 lbs lighter, make 5-13 hp (with a power commander) and cost $900-1300.
....so I went with looks.

The first few months I was comin on here..I was obsessed with what exhaust, PC, Mapping yada yada...stainless, Titanium, Inconel...etc. After speaking with many diff dealers, owners & just plain old thinking about it...I'm just going with the slip on. My dealer would be fine with me putting a full exhaust & PCV..no problem *but they did alert me that BMW likes to look for reasons to deny warrantee covered service* Little things here & there, they'll cover no prob if it can (IN NO WAY) be tied to the exhaust. However, if you & your bike end up needing some serious engine work, you may be SOL with that full exhaust. It's not worth it to me as most of my riding will be on the street. I also don't want every cop on the block staring at my loud-ass bike just waiting for me to twist my wrist Would I love an AR22 in INCONEL?! You betchur patootie!!! ..but I just wouldn't call that a good decision for ME. So many other things I wanna do to this bike..
