Boy, I'd sure hate to have your dealer service my bike. I wouldn't listen to that line of crap. At least with my dealer that is SO not true on nearly all levels. Hell, they as a company sell Akro slipons, install other full systems, and HP ECUs, and work on all sorts of other bikes. They work for me, not against me. They are bike people for crying out loud. If I'm unhappy, I won't be back to buy another - and they understand that.
You MIGHT install an exhaust yourself and screw something up, but the preponderance
of proof is on BMW to prove your mods were the cause of any problem (at least here in the USA) that would void an engine warranty. Listen to a couple of these guys. The ECU will adjust to adding an exhaust alone. It may not do better than a PCV added on, but it shouldn't do worse. The Taylor Made has bungs on it, and can handle both O2 sensors from the stock ECU - like it was designed for.
Worst case, a full system alone may not pass an emissions test, or a noise test in your state or at your track.
I have a PC5 and a Taylor Made sitting around waiting for me to install and then tuned by a really great tuner friend. It isn't BMW that's holding me back, its the local track noise limits that are giving me the willies. God 107db? What was I thinking? Pay $250 for a track day then sit out the rest of the day? Go to Banned Camp?
Now, I believe you are right, that the addition of a PCV or Bazzaz and a tune by any decent tuner isn't going to make the A/F ratio any leaner than it already is. It should get richer, better, cooler, making it a more reliable bike - with more power. Now THAT might get your warranty scrutinized a little closer by BMW as it bypasses some of the factory ECU functions, but that needs to be conclusive as well. On that count, I would consider removing a PCV before taking it in for service, and that's a bit of work.
Personally, I'm really waiting to see what
ECU Unleashed comes up with. If they can flash my ECU and then set it back, I wouldn't be leaving evidence of hardware changes laying around. They are late in getting the product out the door, but I think it will be worth it with a good tuner nearby.
That's my 2-cents.
