Question Map needed(?)

Hello everyone!

Does anybody have a map for ARROW 71106CKR EVO-II (a.k.a. underbelly exhaust)? Just can't find one anywhere...
I'm still deciding which way to go PC-V or Bazzaz, with autotune or without.
But, so far, out of what I've read online I came to conclusion that it is a good idea to have a (base) map and let autotune tune it.

For those who have PC-V/Bazzaz with autotune, do you guys have map loaded or you just let autotune produce one for you (does it do it on the go or you have to actually apply settings?)

Any recommendations/info is appreciated.

If you opt to go with an AutoTuner, it honestly doesn't matter what map you start with... the AutoTuner is going to tune your bike as you ride it. The further off your map is to start, the longer it may take to narrow in on the "right" map for your setup... but it will still get there. The AutoTuner is simply trying to achieve the target AFRs you put into the map (there are default values too). If it sense that you aren't running that AFR at that particular RPM vs throttle position (%), it will add/subtract fuel. While it is tuning, to get a complete map, you'll need to ride throughout the entire RPM range with varying throttle percentages (position) so that it can customize a complete map.

Thank you 1000RR. What is the best/right/recommended target AFR for S1000RR? And how often will I have to save changes(if I ever have to) made by autotune if I'm only streetriding?

The PCV has two maps when you use autotune and the autotune map saves automatically. The other map of course is your base map whether it be a custom map or just the base s1k map.

Those are good questions, there's no "one" answer though.

AFRs - A lot depends on what you're looking for (performance, gas mileage, smoothness, decreased engine heat, all of the above, etc.). I am running an AutoTuner on my S1 with a BMC Race Filter and Akra SS Race exhaust w/long can. I worked with Dusty over at DynoJet a bit to try and come up with good target AFRs. He also helped me figure out how to do a 6-gear map which I'm still running. With the 6-gear map, you end up with 6 separate maps, one for each gear. With that, you can set your AFRs separately for each gear too. This can allow you to try and obtain smoother acceleration, great top end power, fuel mileage for your cruising RPMs, etc.

How Often to Save your AutoTune Maps - Again, this is really up to you. Like RC51 mentioned, the PCV has a base map (whatever you load into it). The AutoTuner has an additional map that overlays the base map. So your base map is already making some preprogrammed adjustments to your fueling. The AutoTuner is overlaying that basemap and attempting to further those adjustments to fueling by trying to achieve your target AFRs. In essence you end up with two tables (or maps if you will). One is your base map, the other is the AutoTuner map (table). The combination is really how your PCV/AutoTuner is making adjustments to your fueling. If you save your combined map, it will then create a new base map... At that point, you've created your custom map. Now if conditions change (elevation, barometric pressure, temp., humidity, etc.), the AutoTuner can or will continue to make adjustments. And if you save it again, you have now created a second base (custom) map.

Personally, in the beginning, I was saving/checking my maps (hooking the laptop up) every ride or two, just so I had a handful of custom maps along the way, so if something happened, I could always get back to something that maybe I liked one day over the next. Currently I have a switch (toggle) wired in under my rear seat/cowl that allows me to turn the AutoTuner off/on (without having to do that in the software by hooking the laptop up). If it is on, it is constantly making adjustment... if it is off, it is just running the base map (whatever the latest base map I may have saved or loaded). I like to check the fueling adjustments and map periodically just to see if anything funky is going on. I've had a particular area of the map that has been doing something weird (certain RPM vs. Throttle %), so I tend to keep an eye on that and manually smooth out the map myself (through the software). If I don't, I can actually feel the issue in the throttle response/smoothness (or lack of).

Probably a longer answer than you wanted, hopefully I didn't confuse you any.

Thank you 1000RR and RC51Player. I don't think this info confused me, just realized how much I really have to learn. Now at least I think I fully understand concept of what fuel management system does, and what role autotune plays... Will have to take it slowly though, without braking the bank And will have more questions along the way...
