Default Exhaust and ECU question

I am getting ready to pull the plug and purchase a Leovince full TI exhaust and my dealer has threatened me on cancelling my warranty because I did not buy it from them. They have even threatened me on not installing it, which is fine. However, they said that my ECU will have to be reset after installing the exhaust. Anyone familiar with this? Or, are they talking about resetting any codes after the exhaust is replaced? Either way, my warranty is going to sh!t and I really don't care.

You will need to have the bike remapped with a power commander or similar device to get the most out of the new exhaust.

This part I know, but what I am wondering is the ECU going to throw a code if I install the exhaust? Everything tells me it will be fine and I will buy the PC V next month.

It will not throw a code and the ecu will relearn your new airflow. You can fine tune it better with a power commander. Your dealer is full of **** if he says it will void your warrantee if they don't install it.

yep tell this dealer to suck wind, BMW covered my engine after it went pop and gave me a full new replacement under warranty and my bike has an akropovic full system, pcv and auto tuner and I bought the bike used you havent voided any warranty unless your aftermarket parts are proven to have caused a failure

Guys, you are stating what is true here in the USA. I do believe that Ricko is in Qatar.

I sure am. And they things over here COMPLETELY different than the states. I was told that if I buy a full exhaust from them (around $3000), they will install it and cancel my warranty. If I buy a slip on from them, they will install it and NOT cancel my warranty. If I buy the SAME full system from a US BMW dealer and ship it here, they will be hesitate to install it.

Either way, I'm screwed! I know the Akra slip on is only for looks and does nothing as in terms of sound. I have my heart set on the Leo Vince full system (newer design). However, no one has chimed in on how the system is. If anyone has pictures, could you please post them? Sound clip would be nice too, but beggars can't be choosers right?

Best advice I can give you is to very carefully read the warranty paperwork. It sounds like to me the dealership there in Doha is trying to strong arm you for some money. If they are the only BMW motorcycle dealership there you are pretty much at their mercy to an extent. Just make sure you can prove them wrong with the warranty if you need too. Please contact BMW if you need too, don't just rely on what the dealership is telling you.

As far as the exhaust, have at it. Having to reset the ECU after installing an exhaust, never heard that one before. What would be best is to install a PCV at the same time and use a Dyno Jet map for the new exhaust or have a new custom map made by a tuner.

You Sir are a brave man if you ride in Doha, Qatar. I have drove in that traffic several times. Even though it has progressed for thebetter over the years, it's still very nutty in that city. I really like driving in the area down by the Corniche by the water front, very pretty area with the Dow boats and all.

Qatar is a good country, enjoyed my stays there!

They are the ONLY dealer in the country that sells BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph, etc. There is no escape. However, I will be checking that warranty paperwork thoroughly tonight.

Riding in Doha is not too bad. One of these days, I will record a typical day riding around and post it on YouTube. Some days, it is complete madness!!! Most people do freak out when they experience the driving here. Out here, it's go hard or go home!
