Although there’s an active thread on this forum about
NEW Arrow Exhaust, I decided to post my comments through an individual thread. To justify this approach, I will give my feedback with concerns to:
a) comparison with Akrapovic Evolution “Shorty”
b) exhaust’s compatibility with Ilmberger 1-Piece race belly pan
The system was delivered from Biohazardcycles. I highly recommend you to deal with Thomas of Biohazardcycles for ANY parts you need for your BMW or ANY other bikes you own. Customer service, prices, delivery – you’ll be 100% satisfied with all of that (at least that worked for me)
Packing.
Italians did all possible to protect the product, but it looked like they did it in a cheap way. Collectors were simply packed into PVC bags, however exhaust (muffler) was placed into a separate inner paper box (not bad!). Akrapovic packs their systems a little bit better. Nevertheless, everything came in perfect condition.
Installation instructions.
The installation procedure was straightforward, however the instruction did not tell you where the exhaust bracket should be installed: under or over the rearsets, you must figure out this by trial and error. So you get a piece of paper from Arrow, and a book of more clear (from my point of view) instructions from Akrapovic.
Quality.
Either Arrow or Akrapovic are both state-of-the-art systems, perfect quality, flawless welding and finish.
Sound.
The Arrow is LOUD! The system is as loud as Akra “Shorty”, but it sounds like an Italian exhaust: different “music” than you get from Akra.
When I rode my factory S1000RR for the first time, it sounded like an electric motorcycle. Come on! I wanted an upgrade for the exhaust for better sound and Arrow helped me with that. I removed dB killer immediately through the installation, so it’s hard to tell you about dB levels with dB killer.
Fairings.
With the Arrow’s design you can keep original fairings and your bike still looks cool. With the Akrapovic full system installed, you would probably need a belly pan to cover the emptiness under motorcycle.
Ilmberger Race 1-piece belly pan.
I decided to apply an Ilmberger carbon belly pan over the Arrow EVO2. Neither Italian Arrow office, nor Thomas from Biohazardcycles could tell me if any of the after-market belly pans would work, so it was a risky and costly decision. Sharkskinz and Austin Racing were not avaiable in our market.
Now I can tell you that Ilmberger is 99% compatible with the system, except 1% for the exhaust’s exit: the Ilmberger’s original body was a little bigger, so it collided with the muffler. To make everything work together, I cut (grinded) the colliding section from the carbon pan and it took me only 15 minutes to complete the task.
Conclusion.
The Arrow’s newest system is definitely a competitor to Akrapovic Evolution exhausts. It looks amazing, sounds great, very loud (without dB killer), light weight and high-quality product. I did not go for dyno yet, so it’s hard to give you any particular numbers, but it’s obvious that Arrow:
a) offers much more power for the bike (than original exhaust)
b) gives bike a better handling due to its center of gravity placement
c) is a perfect replacement for OEM exhaust while retaining OEM fairings
d) is a great choice if you want something different than Akrapovic
e) works with race belly pans (Ilmberger carbon in this case, slight modification is required)
f) is priced a little bit less than Akrapovic EVO “Shorty”
