The bracket is probably undamaged, but my inexperience with a totalled vehicle combined with the holidays ended up losing the old bracket to the insurance when they picked it up.
By the time I realized what was going to happen next, I was a few hundred miles from home and they were picking up the bike from the dealer before the end of the day.
I probably could have salvaged the bracket and rear spools had I known the insurance would pick up the bike and not let me at it again to tear parts off. I only got the windscreen because they removed it during the damage inspection.
What's terrible now though, I finally got the part number to replace the bracket and mounting hardware. But that doesn't come with the bike-side buckle strap. So now, I may end up having to buy a whole extra bag to get that buckle if I can't find a way to make one, per BMW they only give the buckle out with the bag itself.
Ugh. Well, overall I'm thankful that I didn't learn how totalling a vehicle with insurance works until I was 41, but annoyed too.
